DESIGN FOR HINGES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 11,267, dated June 24, 1879; application filed May ill, 1879. [Term of patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE SLATER BAR.- KENTIN, of the city of Hartford, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have originated and produced a new and original Design for Hinges, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying engraving, making part of this specification. e
My design relates to the ornamentation of the leaves and knuckle or joint of the hinge; and consists of a narrow sunken panel,A, with dotted ground running parallel to and near the outer edge of the leaves and knuckle, within which is a row of quarterfoils in relief. The said panel is preferably intersected at the four corners by rosettes, which are drilled and countersunk, forming a support for the screwhead.
Below the upper and above the lower panel on the leaves of the hinge are the borders B B. formed of zigzag bands, each outer division of which incloses a pointed leaf crossed by horizontal and vertical incised lines, and each inner division inclosing a sunken leaflet. Between the borders B B are vertical flutes and rosettes, as shown. On each division of the knuckle are conventional leaf-ornainen ts, as at O O, springing from a central lozenge, all in relief within a sunken panel.
I claim as my in vention- 1. The design of a hinge, consisting of the ornamentation upon the face of the leaves and knuckle, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a hinge, the design of the narrow panel A, extending around the outer edge of the leaves and over the knuckle, and inclosing the row of'quarterfoils in relief, substantially as shown and described.
3. In a hinge, the design of the borders 1 B, consisting of the zigzag bands, inclosing pointed leaves and sunken leaflets, together with the horizontal and vertical incised lines, substantially as shown and described.
4. In a hinge, the design of the knuckle, con sisting of the conventional leaf-ornaments U G, placed in relief withinasunken panel, as shown and described.
Signed by me this 28th day of May, A. D. 1879.
GEORGE SLATER BARKENIIN.
