Description

DID-36 OR D 71772 EX DESIGN.
S. STRASBUBGER.
Watch-Cases.
N0. 7,772. Patented Sept. 22,1874.
\Nkvmmsse s \Xwmvwt UNITED STATES PATENT CFFIGE.
SAMUEL STRASBURGER, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR WATCH-CASES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 7,772, dated September 22, 1874; application filed April 23, 1874.
[Term of Patent 7 years] CASE A.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL STRASBURGER, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a Design for Urnamenting \VatchOase-s, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a front view, the reverse side being the same; and Fig. 2, an edge view of my ornamental watch-case.
Like letters refer to corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawing, which fully represent the nature of my design, and which is more especially adapted to watchcases having bazine or round edges, A being the middle portion of the lid, and U the border of the same. The part A is engine turned, or ornamented by means of a lathe in the usual manner, and has a rose in the center, as shown. Around the ornamentation of the central portion A of the case, and between the same and the border 0, there is a plain band, a, or portion of the case which is not ornamented, but which has a serrated appearance on both sides or along its edge lines, by reason of the ornamentation or engraving on the part A and border 0 of the case terminating at this section in a series of teeth extending entirely around the body A. The entire border 0 of the lid of the ease and edge B, Fig. 2, are engraved or ornamented by being divided into small squares, being lined ofl diagonally, and each square containing a small leaf or figure, as shown.
I prefer to ornament the border and edge of the case as described; but engraving of a different character may be used on these parts of the watch without departing from the spirit of my invention, the distinctive character of my design being found in the ornamental border and edge 0 B, when combined with an ornamental body, A, which is e11 gineturned, as described, and in such a manner as to produce the band it, having serrated edges, and located between the body ornamentation and the border ornamentation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A design for watch-cases, consisting of the lathe-work A, surronndin g the central figure, and hav ng a serrated edge, as shown, and having around it the lathe-work O, with an internal serrated edge interlocking with the serrations of the lathe-work A, and having the intervening zigzag plain surface a, as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name this 20th day of April, 1874.
SAMUEL STRASBURGER.
