DESIGN FOR AN AX.

SPECIFICATION forming' part of Design No. 26,513, dated January 12, 189'?. Application filed August 29, 1896. Serial No. 604,334- Term of patent 14 years.

To a/ZZ whom it may concern.:

Beit known that I, JAMES P. KELLY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alexandria, in the county of Madison and State of Indiana, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Axes, of which the following is a specification.

The objectof my said invention is to produce a new design for the surface ornamentation of axes, whereby they are rendered highly attractive in appearance.

Said design consists in an ax the surface of which is composed of separate lields or sections of different colors, that portion a irnmediately adjacent to the cutting edge being of one color, the general surface b being of another color, except two segments or bevels c above the edge and below the poll of the aX, between which a narrow tongue of the general surface extends, said' two segments or bevels being of still another color, all as indicated in the accompanying drawing, which shows an ax the side of which has the said ornamental pattern or design thereon and which may be formed thereon in any desired manner.

Having thus fullg7 described my said invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The design for an ax having the ornamen tal surface pattern described, the several portions thereof being of contrasting colors, substantially as shown and described.
