OHARLES A. HA'WLEY, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
DESIGN FOR A BADGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 17,839, dated October 25, 1887.
Application filed July 20, IBM. Serial No. 9.44.835. Term of patent 3E years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. HAWLEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented and produced a new and original. Design for Badges; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the a rtto which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to theletters and figures of reference marked thereomwhich form a part of this specification.
The accompanying drawing illustrates in front view a badge made in accordance with my design.
My design consists of a heartshaped shield having a roughened face with a plain border. In the upper portion of the shield there is a 20 raised five-pointed star having a smooth snrface, and upon this star there is formed in hasrelief a representation of the head of George Washington.
I am aware that in heraldic insignia shields having stars and other figures on them are common. I therefore make no broadclaini to such designs.
WhatI claim is-- The herein-described design for a badge, consisting of a Heart-shaped shield having a roughened face and an ornamental border, a five-pointed star having a plain face, and a representation of the head of George Washington on said star both the star and head being in has-relief, as shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signatu rein presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES A. HAVVLEY.
