JACOB W. FENNEL, OF NEWBURGH, NEW YORK.
GLOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 20, 1910.
Application filed February 7, 1910. Serial No. 542,510.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be itknown that I, JACOB W. FENN'EL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newburgh, in the county of Orange and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gloves; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which itappertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in gloves.
One object of the invention is to provide a glove having a detachable thumb and one or more detachable fingers which may be readily removed to permit the free use of the thumb and uncovered fingers of the hands.
Another object is to provide a glove of this character in which the removable parts may be quickly and firmly secured in position on the main part of the glove and means for holding the detachable parts down in place.
lVith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a back view of a glove constructed in accordance with the invention showing the detachable part in place; Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the detachable part removed and disposed at one side of the main part; Fig. 3 is a detail horizontal section on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 denotes the main portion of the glove from which is omitted the thumb and one or more of the finger pieces, said main portion being here shown as having the thumb and index finger piece omitted.
The detachable portion of the glove which contains the thumb piece 2 and omitted finger piece 3 also comprises a hand-engaging portion 4t which is adapted to be slipped onto and off from the side of the hand por tion of the main section of the glove, and when in engagement with said hand portion of the main section of the glove, the finger piece 3 and thumb piece 2 will be brought opposite to or over the thumb and finger openings in the main section of the glove and when so engaged will form a complete glove.
The detachable section of the glove is adapted to be held in position on the main section by a series of buttons, stud and socket fastenings or other suitable attaching devices, said devices being here shown in the form of resilient stud and socket fastenings The fastening devices may be arranged on either or both the back and palm of the hand portion of the glove sections and any number of said devices may be employed between the wrist and the finger end of the glove sections.
Arranged in either the outer or inner side of the hand portion of the detachable section of the glove, preferably immediately below the thumb connection, is a gore or insertion 6 of rubber, elastic or other similar material which will prevent the accumulation of wrinkles in the detachable or thumb section of the glove when the same is being worn. This elastic gore is arranged at the base of the thumb so that it will take up the bulging which would otherwise occur when the thumb or the hand is moved. It will be observed that in my device there is a double thickness of material around the side of the hand at the inner side of the thumb and around the base of the thumb which would cause a bulky and unsightly appearance of the glove when the same is being worn unless this elastic gore were provided.
By means of a glove constructed as herein shown and described, the detachable section may be quickly and easily removed to permit the free use of the thumb and uncovered fingers of the hand, and while the detachable section is here shown as having the thumb and but one finger piece, it is obvious that any number of the finger pieces may be omitted from the main section of the glove and applied to the detachable section, thus pro *iding for the uncovering of as many fingers as desired.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, What means for fastening the sections together at I claim iS: the wrist.
A. glove comprising anmin section cover- In testimony whereof I have hereunto set ing the back and palm of the hand and my hand in presence of two subscribing Witsome of the fingers and fitting around the nesses. wrist but arranged to leave the thumb ex- I posed, a removable section having 2 thumb piece and a finger piece and having a body I Vitnesses: portion fitting around the main section be- PEARL FENNEL, 10 tween the wrist and finger ends thereof, and Nu'r'rln FENNEL.
JACOB WV. FENNEL.
