GLOVE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 3, 1920.
Application filed January 8, 1918. Serial No. 210,894.
To all whom it may concern: 7
Be it known that I, TARY PAcIrIoo, a citizen of Italy, residing at Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improve,
gloves or mittens such as are commonly used by mechanics, workmen, railway and street car operators, and other people handling machinery, tools and the like as well as for various uses in connection with the household or with the handling of chemicals or the like where it is of importance to protect the hands against the action of injurious substances or excessive degrees of temperature, and has for one of its objects to improve the construction and increase the utility of devices, of this character.
An embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying drawings in which,-
Figure 1 is a perspective view, the glove being shown from the inside with the closing flaps open to show'the clefts or openings, and
Fig. 2 is a cross section through the thumb portion with the covering flap closed.
The improved glove is designed to overexperienced in connection with gloves or mittens of the kind referred to, of handling articles which require the direct action of the touch of the skin, in order. to secure a firm grip or to prevent slipping in the hand of the operator. This is the case for instance when it becomes necessary to handle articles of comparatively small size, such as a watch, pieces of money, or to prevent slipping, such as handling a screw driver, adjusting micrometer screws, small nuts or the like. With the gloves heretofore in use it became necessary to remove the glove for such pur-' poses, entailing loss of time and the liability of losing the glove. enabled to overcome this difiiculty by providing any of the fingers of the glove or mitten with openings and suitable flaps, to be closed by suitable devices, and permitting the operator to project his fingers through these openings which are preferably though not necessarily, arranged atthe insides of about the middle of the thumb and forefinger of the gloves.
By my invention I am The glove or mitten may be made of rubber, leather, canvas, knitted "or worsted material or any other kind of fabric, of oiled paper or the like.
In the present embodiment of the invention the holes or slots 1 and 2 respectively are'provided in the insides of the middle parts. of the forefinger 3 and the thumb 4;. These openings may be covered by side flaps 5 and 6 respectively which are secured by stitching or otherwise at the sides of the openings, and may be secured by ordinary buttons or otherwise. In the preferred form of construction shown in the drawings the flaps are of sufficient length to reach around the finger or thumb, so as to enable them to be buttoned or secured at the backs thereof by which means pressure of the closing means against the inside of the fingers of the operator. Other closing means not shown in the drawings, may obviously also be employed within the scope of my invention, and it is evident that I am not restricted to the securing of the closing means inthe immediate vicinity of the openings, but may secure them at any distance thereof to suit the particular purpose for which my invention may be utilized. It is also evident that-my invention is not limited to providing the openings merely in the forefinger'and'thumb, but I may provide them at any other places of the glove to suit the various requirements.
What I claim is 1. A hand covering including thumb and finger members having overlapping seams and with a cleft in one of the members remote from the seam, and a closure for the cleft extendingat one edge between said overlapping seam portions and secured in position by the stitches of the seam.
2. A hand covering including thumb and finger members having overlapping seams and with a cleft in one of the members remote from the seam, a closure for the cleft extending at one edge between said overlapping seam portions and secured inposition by the stitches of the seam, and fastening means for securing the closure at its free edge to the cleft member.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signa ture hereto;
TARY rnoirico.
