sraiLPTENT OFFICE ALFRED STEDlVIAN, 0F MIDDLE GROVE, NEW YORK.
GLOVE.
To all whom it may concern.: Y
Be it known that I, ALFRED STEDMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Middle Grove, in the county of Saratoga and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gloves; and I do declare the following to b e a full, clear, and eXact description of the in vention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in gloves, and more especially to those of that character known as gauntlets; and the principal object. of the same is to provide a device for converting an ordinary glove into a gauntlet.
An additional object of the same is to so construct the device that when applied to the wrist of the operator the same fastening means which connect the glove with the culi' of the gauntlet may be drawn up tightly so as to contract the whole around the wrist..
lVith these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will-be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
Y In the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a perspective view of la glove showing my improved gauntlet applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the glove and gauntlet separated; Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view through a portion of a glove and gauntlet showing the same connected together; Fig. 4 is a horizontal sectional view of the same.
Referring more particularly to the drawing l denotes a glove which may be of the ordinary or any suitable construction and in the inner end or cuff of which are formed at suitable intervals pairs of slits 2, the material between which is adapt-ed to form loops constituting one member of fastening devices by means of which my improved gauntlet 3 is detachably secured to the glove.
The gauntlet 3 may be constructed in the usual or any suitable manner and is here Specification of Letters Patent.

shown in the form of a cuff slightly tapered toward its outer end and having arranged therein a suitable stiifening for holding the same in shape. In the gauntlet near the smaller end thereof is formed an annular row of openings 4 which are preferably of rectangular shape and which. are spaced apart at distances corresponding to the distance between the pairs of slits 2 in the cuff end of the glove whereby, when said end of the glove is slipped into the outer end of the gauntlet, the material between said pairs of slits may be brought o-pposite to the openings 4 in the gauntlet. When the parts are thus arranged the material between the slits 2 is drawn through the openings 4 and thus forms loops 5, through which is inserted a vfastening strap 6, said strap engaging the outer surface of the gauntlet between the openings therein and having on one end a buckle 7 or other suitable fastening device whereby the ends of the strap may be adjustably drawn together and fastened thus securely attaching the glove to the gauntlet, and clamping both around the wrist if the strap be drawn up sufficiently tight.
By thus fastening the glove to the gauntlet the latter may be readily attached to and detached from the glove when desired. By providing a gauntlet constructed as herein shown and described the same may be used in connection with several different pairs of gloves and when. one pair of gloves wears out, may be readily attached to another pair.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention' will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
A new article of manufacture comprising a glove with slits circumferentially arranged around the same to provide longitudinal loops between the slits, an attachment for t-he glove consisting of a gauntlet having circumferentially spaced openings therein, said glove adapted to have its loops inserted through and above the openings in the gauntlet, a strap inserted through saicl loops my hand in presence of two subscribing witand fastening means on the strap to secure nesses.
the glove and gauntlet around the wrist of the wearer, and said gauntlet being detachable whereby the glove can be worn without Witnesses:
the gauntlet. Y CATHERINE E. WAGAR,
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set EDWARD S. CooNs.
' ALFRED STEDMAN.
