GRAEME THOMAS SMALLWOOD, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, ASSIGNOB 0F ONE-HALF T0 GEORGE T. SMALLWOOD, OF WASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
COAT.
Patented Nov. 30, 1915.
Application filed October 27, 1914. Serial No. 868,918.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GRAEME T. SMALL- wooD, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington, District of Columbia, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Coats, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to afford a means whereby the coat of a suit of clothes, preferably a uniform, maybe worn with badges thereon, displayed or concealed as desired.
That the invention may be clearly understood, I will describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows a portion of a coat with my invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 shows the detachable sleeve-piece removed from the coat. Fig. 3 shows a modification of the invention.
In the above views reference letter B represents a coat such as may be worn by Boy Scouts. To one of the sleeves of this coat is applied fastening devices (such as glove fastenings) D. A represents a sleeve-piece which is provided with cooperating fastening devices C, for engaging the fastening devices D on said sleeve.
In Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing I have illustrated the preferred form of construction. In this form the sleeve piece A, is detachably connected to the coat sleeve, and carries the badges for display.
Fig. 8 illustrates a coat sleeve having the movable sleeve piece A secured along one of its edges at E, by a line of stitching, leaving the other edge free but adapted to be detachably secured to the coat sleeve by fastening devices C and D. In this form of construction the badges, etc., are preferably carried by the coat sleeve proper, and are adapted to be covered by the movable sleeve piece A. When the said sleeve piece A is turned back, exposing the badges, etc, the fastening devices C on said sleeve piece may engage the cooperating fastening devices D, and thus be held in a position whereby the badges, etc., on said sleeve, may be exposed to view. It is obvious however that the sleeve piece in this modified construction may carry the badges, etc., as in the construction shown in the first two figures of the drawing.
I claim- 1. The combination with, a coat sleeve provided with fastening devices, of a sleeve piece provided with cooperating fastening devices for engaging the fastening devices on said coat sleeve, said sleeve piece adapted to carry badges, etc, substantially as set forth.
2. The combination with a coat sleeve provided with fastening devices, of a sleeve piece permanently secured to the coat sleeve along one edge, and provided along its opposite edge with cotiperating fastening means for detachably securing said sleeve piece in two different positions to said coat sleeve, as and for the purpose set forth.
GRAEME THOMAS SMALLWOOD.
