NECKTIE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 26, 1916.
Application filed December 3, 1915. Serial No. 64,817.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK B. MEYER, a citizen of the United States residing at Baltimore city, State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Neckties, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to neckties, and its object is to provide the same with a novel and improved shield, and a connection between the necktie and the shield which is a separable one, thus permitting a change of neckties, one shield suflieing for all the neckties to which a person may desire to apply a shield.
With the object stated in view, the invention consists in a combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed, and in order that the same may be better understood, reference is had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is an elevation showing the back of the necktie; Fig. 2 is an elevation of the necktie shield, and Fig. 3 is an edge view showing the necktie and the shield connected, the latter being partly in section.
Referring specifically to the drawing, 5 denotes a necktie. shield of the usual shape, to which the bow or other style of necktie 6 is attached. A separable fastening is provided so that the neckties may be changed. The fastening is of the head-and-socket type. The socket member of the fastening is indicated at 7, the same being carried by a plate 8 which is sewed or otherwise attached to the back of the necktie. The head 9 of the fastening is carried by the shield. Two of these fastening devices are used, in order that the necktie may be securely. held to the shield, and prevented from turning or slipping around on the same.
The material employed for the shield 5 and the plate 8 may be celluloid, or some other thin, light. material having suflicient stiffness to serve the purpose for which these parts are designed. The shield is composed of two superimposed layers as shown in Fig. 3, between which the attaching base flanges of the members 9 are held. One of the layers has an intermediate. depending part 11 which is provided with a slit 12 adapted to be slipped over the front collar button as usual, for holding the shield, and the necktie carried thereby, in place.
It will be seen from the foregoing that the separable fasteners enable the necktie to be readily attached to the shield or removed therefrom, and the necktie may therefore be changed, one shield sufiicing for all the neckties to which a person may desire to apply a shield and wear the neckties with the latter.
The device if also simple and cheap, and it effectually serves the purpose for which I it is designed. r
I claim:
The combination with a necktie and its shield; of a separable fastening therebetween, the shield being composed of superimposed layers, one of which layers has an intermediate depending portion provided with a button-engaging slit, and the fastening comprising head and socket members, one of which members is carried by the necktie, and the other member by the shield, between the layers of which latter it is held.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FREDERICK B. MEYER.
Vitnesses HOWARD D. ADAMS, E. WALTON BREWINGTON.
