To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, LAZARUS Lnvr and WILLIAM Lnvr, both citizens of the United States, and residents of the city and State of New York, have invented certain Im proveniente in Trousers, of which the following is a specification.

lThis invention relates to certain improvements in trousers, and more particularly in such trousers as are intended to be supported by waist belts and the like, and the object of the invention is to provide such 'trousers with means of a novel and improved construction for maintaining the forward portion of such waist belt in proper relation to the trousers waist band in such a manner as to prevent slipping or creeping of the belt upward above the waist band during wear.

rllhe invention consists in certain novel features of the construction and arrangement of the improved belt holding means whereby certain important advantages are attained, and the waist belt is securely maintained in proper relation to the trousers waist band, and said holding means is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise better adapted and more convenient for use, all as will be hereinafter fully set forth.

In order that our invention may be the better 'understood we will now proceed to describe the saine with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a front elevation showing a fragment of the waist portion of a pair of trousers provided with our improved belt holding means Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional view taken horizontally through the trousers waist band and waist belt, and showing the belt holding means engaged with the latter; Fig. 3 is a fragmentary sectional view taken vertically through the parts at one side of the trousers fly, and Fig. 4 is a fragmentary 'View somewhat similar to Fig. l, but showing the trousers with the fly partly opened and the waist belt omitted.

In these views l represents the waist poi tion of the trousers to which our improvements are applied, and 2, 2 represent belt loops applied along the waist band thereof in a well known way, while 3 represents a waist belt threaded through said loops and provided at one end with a buckle of any preferred kind, provided with a tongue 5 adapted for interchangeable engagement with one or another of a series of apertures (l, producedin the opposite end of said belt 3, so as to permit the same to be securely strapped about the waist of the wearer for the support of the trousers in the customary manner.

7 represents the front liy of the trousers, provided with detachable securing means 8 of the usual or any preferred kind, and 9 represents our improved belt holding means which, as herein shown is made in the form of a short length of tape, cord or webbing, the opposite extremities whereof are secured as indicated at l() in Figs. 3 and 4t, between the trousers material forming the outer ply of the fly, and the inner facing strip 11 of said outer ply, the central portion of said tape, cord or webbing being extended parallel with the edge of said outer ply of the fly 7, but being free therefrom in suchy a way as to permit of being engaged over the tongue 5 of the belt buckle 4, so as to oper ate to hold that end of the belt whereon said buckle is carried securely in relation upon said outer ply of the iiy, irrespective of whether' or not the buckle is secured to the apertured end of the belt. By this construc tion and arrangement of the parts, the tape, cord vor webbing 9 `affords a loop of unobtrusive size and arrangement which in no way detracts from the appearance of the trousers even when the waist belt is not worn, being practically concealed by reason of its location along the edge of the outer ply of material at the fly of the trousers, while when the belt is worn, the engagement of the buckle tongue 5 with said loop edectively holds that end of the belt whereon such buckle is carried against excessive movement upon the waist portion of the trousers so that when the trousers are taken off, the belt is held in relation thereto and is prevented from slipping endwise through the loops 2, 2 and when the trousers are worn, said loop effectively prevents the front part of the belt from slipping or creeping upward over the trousers waist band and by reason of the formation of said loop the buckle tongue is adapted to slip or play freely through the same, so as not to interfere, in any way with convenient adjustment of the belt.

It will also be evident that during wear of the trousers the free extremity of the apertured end of the belt is passed over the loop or tape 9 before engagement With the usual retaining loop 12 so as to completely cover and conceal said loop from view.

From the above description it vvill be seen that the improved belt holding means constructed and arranged according to our invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature, and is particularly Well adapted for use by reason of ,the security and convenience With Which the belt is held in place Whether it be buckled or unbuckled, and it Will also be obvious from the above description that the device is susceptible of some change Without material departure from the principles and spirit of the invention, and for this reason We do not desire to be understood as limiting ourselves to the precise formation and arrangement of the loop or tape herein shown in cari-ying out our invention in practice.

Having thus described our invention, What We claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- In combination With trousers having a Waist portion provided with a front Hy formed of a plurality of plies, a iiexible member arranged in alinement with an edge of the fly, the extremities of the iiexible member being secured between the plies of the iiy, the intermediate portion of the iiexible member being free of the iiy edge and in close proximity thereto and disposed in a curve, said intermediate portion being capable of movement beyond a side of the edge of the fly.
