BELT-KEEPER FOB TROUSERS-BANDS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 21, 1910.
Application filed July 19, 1909. Serial No. 508,403.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OMAR E. CLARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Golumbus, in the county of Franklin and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Belt-Keepers for Trousers-Bands, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to the improvement of belt keepers for trousers bands and the objects of my invention are to provide a simple, inexpensive and convenient metallic keeper of this class which may be readily connected with or disconnected from the band of a pair of trousers and which will serve to effectually support a belt in connection with the trousers; to provide improved means for locking the keeper in connection with the trousers and to produce certain improvements in details of construction which will be more fully pointed out hereinafter. These objects I accomplish in the manner illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a rear or inner side elevation of my improved keeper, Fig. 2 is a vertical section through a trousers band and belt, showing a side elevation of my improved keeper in connection with the band, and, Fig. 3 is an outer face view of the keeper when in position on the trousers band.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
The body of my device is formed of one piece or strip of metal, of which 1 repre sents the straight vertical outer member or face. From the lower end of the member 1, the strip is bent inwardly and thence upwardly parallel with the portion 1 to a point near the center of the height of the latter and this lower inwardly and upwardly bent member which is indicated at 2 is provided with a terminal hook or finger 3, which is hooked into engagement with the lower end of a downwardly extending rear member i which is formed by bending the upper portion of the strip rearward and thence downward, as shown. The member2has stamped outwardly therefrom an upturned spur or pointed hook 5 and the upper portion of the member a has cut from its sides, two rearwardly extending parallel fingers 6, which project in rear of the member 4; and terminate in opposing eyes or loops 7 Held in these eyes or loops is a pin 8 about which between said fingers 6, is loosely coiled the ends of a doubled wire retaining member 9, said coiled ends terminating in projecting points or spurs 9*. As shown in the drawing, the body of the retaining wire member 9 is in the nature of an elongated loop, the outer or lower end of which is turned toward the body of the kee er.
The desired number 0 keepers formed as herein described, are adapted to be secured at proper intervals in connection with a trousers band as follows: The rearwardly projecting fingers 6 of each of the keepers are made to embrace or hook over the upper edge of the trousers band 10, while the spur or hook member 5 .is not only hooked into but passed through the trousers band at a lower point. This being accomplished, the retaining wire member 9 is swung downward and inward causing its terminal spurs or points 9 to engage the material forming the trousers band, said retaining member being adapted to be locked in this position by springing the lower outer portion of the same, laterally and thence inward behind the hook 5 which engages the inturned end of the retainer loop. By this operation, it will readily be understood that the desired number of keepers may be securely fastened to the trousers band in such position as to facilitate the passing of an ordinary waist belt 11 through the elongated loop formed between the members 1, and 2 and 4. It is obvious that my improved belt keepers may be readily detached from the band of the trousers by first pressing the retaining wire loop outward, thence laterally until out of engagement with the hook 5, releasing the engagement of the points or spurs 9 with the band by moving the swinging retaining member inward and disengaging the hook member 5 from the lower portion of the band.
It is obvious that the face of the keeper member 1 may be suitably ornamented and that devices such as herein described may be made to present a neat and attractive appearance when in position on the band of the trousers.
From the foregoing description, it will be seen that simple and efficient means are herein provided for accomplishing the obj ects of the invention, but while the elements shown and described are well adapted to serve the purposes for which they are intended, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the precise construction set forth, but includes within its purview such changes as may be made within the scope of the appended claim. What I claim, is: In a belt keeper, the combination with a strip of metal bent to an elongated loop form, the lower rear portion being provided with a rearwardly and upwardly extending hook and the upper portion being provided with a rearward extension, of a retaining.
member having a swinging connection with said rearward extension and having tercloth of a garment.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature 1 in presence of two witnesses.
OMAR E. CLARK.
