SUSPENDER-END ATTACHMENT.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 481,360; dated August 23, 1892.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN LEES, Jr., a citizen of the United States, residing at Adrian, in the county of Lenawee and State of Michigan,have invented certain new and usefulIinprovements in Trouser-Suspender Attachments, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in trouser-suspender attachments; and it consists in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and combination of the various parts, all as more fully hereinafter described.

In the drawings, Figure l is a perspective View of a pair of trousers, showing the loop secured therein. Fig. 2 is an enlarged elevation of one of the loops, showing the suspender engaged therewith; and Fig. 3 is a detached perspective View of one of the spring-hooks.

A are the trousers, to the top edge of which are secured the loops B. These loops I preferably make of braid strips a, having the flat tabs 1) formed at the ends, which are permanently secured to the upper edge of the trousersin any desired manner, preferably by sewing, and forming an inverted-V-shaped loop, as shown in Fig. 1. Atthe upper edge of this loop is secured the spring hook O. This spring-hook I make of a single piece of wire bent at the middle to form a hook c, the V61- tical depending portion d, the coils e, and the spring-arms f terminating in the inclined disengaged portions g, which pass beyond the rear edge of the hook. The coils e not only give the necessary spring to the arms f, but also serve as the means of securing the hook to the loop D in one end of a pair of suspenders, having at the end buckle E, terminating in an eye F, preferably of thin sheet metal. The parts being thus constructed and the eyes at the lower end of the suspeuder being engaged with the hooks on the loops they may be adjusted to any desired height by means of the buckles E. To disengage them, a downward movement of the eye F will bear against the inclined disengaged portion 9 of the springarmf and compress those arms to allow the eye to pass from beneath the hook. The hook is provided with an upwardly-bent portion 72, so that to re-engage it the wearer has simply to spring the eye Fin between this upturned portion and the upper end of the spring-arms f, when a slight upward pull will compress the armsfsufficient to engage the eye into the hook.

-What I claim as my invention is- The combination, with the end of a pair of suspenders, of loops formed of curved braided strips having flat securing portions at their lower ends to be permanently secured to trousers, a spring-hook formed of a single piece of wire bent at its middle to form a hook c, the

shanks of which are bent, respectively, into coils constituting registering-eyes through which the strip passes, the ends of the wire terminating in spring-arms and carried up and engaging below the hook portion, and an eye F on the end of the suspenders with which the hook engages, substantially as described.
