Be it known that I, FRIEND A. Boss, a

citizen of the United States, residing at Greenwich, in the county of-Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Garment- Supporters, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relatesfto garment support ers but more particularly to the buckles used in connection with the same.

- a One object of my invention is to provide a garment supporter in which the end of the supporting strap is swaged to the buckle so that the strap. can not become separated therefrom when the lever is opened or upset.

Another object of my invention is to provide a buckle'in which that portion of the back cooperating with the lever edge ,is reinforced by a fold in the metal.

V The supporter may be shortened and irl ngthened by raising and lowering" the ver B and the front face of the lip. In this position the supporter is of maximum length. To shorten the supporter, that 1s, to .shorten the supporting portion of the strap, the

running portion of the strap is pulled or pushed downwardly through the buckle causing the lower portion of the strap to form a slack loop as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. Of course it is understood that the lever is upset or open d during the time the strap is being passed up and down through the buckle,'andthat when the proper adjustment of the strap is effected the lever is shut down or closed. The loop in the supporting strap above referred to may be sufficiently hort so as to be entirely concealed behind the. lever B. or may be suiiiciently long so as to completely cover the button loop C, itslength being determined by the amount of take up in the supporting strap.

The clamping action of theedge 5 of the lever B in looking the supporting strap F against the back plate 1 serves to press the front portion or shield against the loop formed in the supporting strap and hold'the folds of the latter in close engagement with each other and against the curled tongue 7.

his gives the device a flat and compact appearance. The principal advantage of my invention, however, resides in the feature of making the lower end of the supporting strap fast to the buckle thus avoiding the inconvenience and confusion resul ing in the strap and buckle becoming separated, which often happens in that style of the device now on the market in which the end of the strap is free and not attached to 1 the buckle. This separation not. only occurs during the time of shipment, when thelever is accidentally upset, but also while the old 'v1ce' isbeing manipulated on the person of the wearer.

It should be noticed that all of the parts are so designed and arranged as to be capable of the most rapid processes of assembling. and that no sewing or stitching is required since all the fabric parts are made fast by folding portions of the sheet metal back plate.

It should. be further noticed thatthe back. plate 1' isa connecting piece for the loop. tab and the. supporting strap,

so that without the action of the lever thedevice mav perform the function of a garment supporter in whichthere is no ad ustment and in which the parts are all per-ma nentlv fastened together.

Having nowdescribed my invention what I claim .and desire to protect by Letters Patent is: I

In a hose supporter buckle havingra pivoted lever and a sheet metal back,: and a supporting strap passed between said lever and'back, the said backibeing provided with vertically disposed and forwardly turned side ears and having its upper extremity; folded downwardly to form a reinforcing lip'between which and. the body of theback' is confined the end of the-supporting strap,- and the said ilever being journaled between said earsso that. its clamping edge will coact with the front side of the reinforced por-v tion of the'back to lock the moving'portion of said supporting strap when the buckle is closed.

3. As an article of -manufacture a: hose supporter comprising a supporting webbing, a buckle having a pivoted lever and. a sheet metal backyanda button clasp attachedto said back. the said buckle having the upper edge of that portion of theback-which 00-.

4. combination with ahose-supporter comprising a supporting strap, a button loop of said strap to permanently secure thesame to the back, whereby all of the parts can be assembled by metal bending operations and none of the parts can become separated from the back when the buckle is open.

5. In a hose supporter a buckle having a pivoted lever and a sheet metal back, and a supporting strap passed between said lever and back, the said back having its upper edge folded downwardly to form a reinforcing lip between which and the body of the back is swaged the end of the'supporting' strap, and the said lever being arranged to co-act with the front face of said lip to lock the moving portion of said supporting strap 7 when the buckle is closed.

6. In a hose supporter a buckle having a pivoted lever and a sheet metal back, and a Gopies of this patent may supporting strap passed between said lever and back, the said back being provided with porting strap, and the said lever being journaled between said ears so that its clamping edge will co-act with the front face of said lip to lock the moving portion of said sup-f porting strap when the buckle is closed. 7
