N.PETERS. PHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASmNGTON u C UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS PRAHAR, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN CLASPS FOR POCKET-BOOKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 197,563, dated November 27, 1877 application filed October 29, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LOUIS PRAHAR, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fastener for Pocket-Books, &c., of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1. represents my improved fastener as applied to a pocket-book. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the fastener taken through the line .40 00, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail top view of the lower or base plate. Fig. 4 is a detail bottom view of the top plate.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to improve the construction of the pocket-book fastener for which Letters Patent No. 177,797 were granted to me May 23, 1876, so as to furnish a fastener for pocket-books and other articles, which shall be simple in construction and inexpensive in manufacture.
The invention consists in the hook formed upon the rear end of the lower plate, and the loop or keeper formed upon the tail of the top plate, in combination with the said plates and with the spring, as hereinafter fully described.
A is the bottom or base plate of the fastener, which is struck up so as to form a flange around its edge provided with points a for securing it in place, and with anupward offset in its rearpart to form a cavity for the spring and hinge.
B is the top plate, which is struck up so as to have a slight flange around its edge, and has a downwardlyproje'cting tail, b, formed upon its rear end.
Upon the side edges of the tail b are formed points, which are bent inward so as to form a loop or keeper, 11 to receive a hook, a formed upon the rear edge of the bottom plate A, in a notch formed in the flange of said rear end.
0 is the spring, the forward end of which is secured to the lower side of the plate Aby the stud-D, the lower end of which passes through the said plate and spring, and is headed down or riveted in place. The free or rear end of the spring 0 passes back through the notch in the flange at the rear end of the plate A, and rests against the end of the tail b of the plate B to hold the said plate in position both when open andwhen closed, and to keep the parts of the hinge in place.
Having thus described my invention, I
- claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The hook a formed upon the rear end of the lower plate A, and the loop or keeper b formed upon the tail 1) of the top plate B, in combination with the said plates A B and with the spring 0, substantially as herein shown and described.
LOUIS PRAHAR.
