CLASP FOR HOLDING BEDCLOTI-IES OR LAP-ROBES.
Specification of Letters Iatent.
Patented Aug. 8, 1916.
Application filed October 12, 1914. Serial No. 866,372.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ROWLAND F. HEMING- WAY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Andrews, in the county of Cherokee and State of North Carolina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clasps for Holding Bedclothes or Lap-Robes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a clasp for holding bed clothes or lap robes.
The object'of my invention is to produce a device of the character mentioned, adapted to be attached to a strap or other flexible connection by which a bed covering or lap covering may be held in position and readily and conveniently unfastened when desired.
To these ends, my invention includes the combination and arrangement of component parts to be hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing the figure shown is a side View of my device.
Referring now to the drawings, 7 indicates a flexible strap to the end of Which is attached the stirrups 8, to which the clasp 9 is swiveled by means of the pivot pin 10. The clasp 9 comprises a strip of metal bent into substantially U-shape, as shown, so as to tend by its resiliency to spring open in an obvious manner. The outer surfaces of the sides of the clasp are corrugated, as shown, at 11 to give the necessary rigidity to the legs and to more effectually cause the roll- Gopies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the ers 12 of the sliding lock 13 to engage the legs of the clasp. At each end of the clasp I attach a button or washer 14:, having serrated faces 15 that cause them to more firmly grip the cloth of a cover without liability of tearing same.
It will be apparent that in use the resilient legs will bend inwardly as the clamping loop 13 is advanced to] secure the clamping buttons 14: and that when the clamping loop is retracted it will obviously ride more easily over the corrugations by which it is held in position because of the rollers 12 carried thereon.
I claim:
A clasp of the character described, comprising a continuous U-shaped strip of resilient material forming the legs of opposite jaw members, the outer faces of said legs being corrugated, a slidable locking loop for holding said legs in compressed position, a roller carried on each end of said loop to frictionally engage the corrugated faces of said legs, and pivoted means carried by said U-shaped strip intermediate of its ends for attachment of same to a strap or the like, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aifiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
