Description

G. E. BARR.
HOOK.
APPLICATION FlLED JAN-19.1917.
1,3 1 1,499. Patented July 29, 1919.
THE COLUMBIA PLANDGRAPH c0. WASHINGTON, D. c.
- exact description of UN 1TB GEORGE E. DARE, OF ONTARIO, OREGON.
HOOK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 29, 1919.
Application filed January 19, 1917. Serial No. 143,262.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. DARK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ontario, in the county of Malheur and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hooks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in hooks, and the principal object of the invention is to provide a hook for toilet purposes having an extended arm for holding the flap of the meeting edges of cloth or the like in such position as to avoid any possibility of the garment gapping and exposing to view undergarments.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device which may be formed on a hook constructed in the ordinary approved manner which extension is attached near the edge of the article on which the device is used.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of parts which will be fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a view showing a hook constructed in accordance with this invention as it would appear when in use on a garment, and
Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the hook.
Referring to the drawing 1 designates the under flap of the garment, while the numeral 2 designates the outer flap. The edge of the flap 1 carries a suitable eye 3, while the hook designated generally by the numeral 4: is attached to the flap 2. The hook 4 above referred to comprising a tongue 5 formed of a U-shaped band of wire having the end of its arms bent as at 6 to provide a pair of parallel extending arms 7 which are provided at their ends with the attaching eyes 8. One of the arms 7 curves outwardly as illustrated in Fig. 2, while the other curves inwardly and continues in an upwardly in- Cop'ies of this patent may be obtained for clined direction to a point intermediate the arms of the tongue 5 toprovide a hump 9. The end of the hump opposite that connected to the eye 8 is bent downwardly and then upwardly to provide a bight portion 10, the purpose of which conforms to the curvature of the bight 6, and these bight portions 6 ando10 form a seat in which the eye engages when the device is in use. The upper end of the bight portion 10 is extended and bent as at 11 to provide an arm 12 formed at its extremity with an attaching eye 13 which as shown in Fig. l is attached adjacent the edge of the outer flap 2.
In use, it will be seen that the hook is attached to garment in the manner illustrated in Fig. 1 while the eye is attached as shown to the flap 1. Upon hooking the hook into the eye it will be seen that the arm 12 will hold the outer flap 2 in such a position that it overlaps the attaching eyes of the eye 3 and thereby prevent any possibility of the garment gapping.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that such changes may be made in the combination and arrangement of parts as will fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
What is claimed is:
A hook formed of a single length of wire bent intermediate its ends to form a U- shapcd tongue, said U-shaped tongue having its bight portion curved outwardly to provide a guide, a pair of attaching arms extending from and parallel to the U-shaped tongue and having their terminals provided with eyes, and a central arm extending from one of the eyes of said arms and extending between and beyond said first named arms and having its free end provided with an eye, said central arm being provided with a pair of humps forming a recess for receiving a coacting fastening element.
