Description

Sept. 23 l, 1924.
Filed Aug'. 2. 1923 Patented Sept.. 23, 1924.
rLoYD L. Len, or DELHI, iowa.
GAB-MENU? SUPPORTER.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, FLOYD L. LAU, citizen of the United States, residing at Delhi, in the county of Delaware and State of Iowa, have invented certainnew and useful Improvements in Garment Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garment supporters, and has particular reference to an improved devicel primarily designed to prevent a garment supporting belt from being displaced upwardly atthe front of the garment above the latter.
It is well known that considerable inconvenience and annoyance is experienced by persons employing waist line garment supporting belts, due to the fact that these belts often become displaced above the top of the garment.
It is accordingly the primary object of the present invention to provide a simple, durable and efficient device by means of which this occurrence is prevented, although the invention is adaptable for other analogous uses and not limited to this specific use.
With the` above general object in view and others that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and claimed.
In the drawings, wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout `the several views:
Figure l is a fragmentary perspective view showing a device constructed in ac-` cordance with the present invention applied to the waist line of a pair of trousers and the supporting belt thereof.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of the device detached, and
Figure 3 is a plan view of the blank from which the device is formed.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, 5 indicates a portion of a pair of trousers around the waist lineportion of which a belt 6 is usually worn for supporting the trousers. In actual use, the belt G oftentimes becomes displaced above the upper edge of the trousers, thereby causing discomfort for the wearer as well as presenting an undesirable appearance and oftentimes exposing the usual buttons 7 by means of whichy the closure of the garment is fastened at the upper portion thereof.
in accordance with the present invention, this occurrence is prevented by means of a device generally denoted by the numeral 8 which comprises a pair of parallel arms 9 and l0, adapted to lie against opposite sides of the belt 6 and connected at their upper edges by means of a connecting portion l1 adapted to engage the upper edge of the belt 6, means being provided for attaching the lower end of the shorter inner arm 9 to the garment 5. When the garment employs the button 7, the device is formed with the lower end of the arm 9 terminating in a laterally directed hook l2 adapted to be engaged with the button 7 for preventing upward displacement of the same and consequently preventing similar displacement of the belt 6.
However, when the button 7 is not available. the lower end of the arm 9 may be sewed or otherwisefattached to the garment through the provision of a series of perforations 13, and in order to permit ready ac* cess to the lower end of the arm 9 for these purposes, the lower portion of the arm 8 is odset laterally as at 14C in a direction opposite to that in whichthe hook 12 extends.
The device may be constructed of any desirable material, but is preferably formed from a strip of sheet metal, stamped into a blank, as shown in Figure 8, which blank is in turn bent between its ends to provide the arms 9 and l0 and the connecting portion 1l.
From the foregoing description, it is believed that the construction, manner of use and advantages of the invention will be readily understood and appreciated by those skilled in the art.'
Minor changes may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What I claim as new is:
A garment support consisting of a metallic strip provided at a point between its ends with an arcuate bend` and having spaced, parallel, plane end portions one of which is longer than the other, the shorter end portion having a hook disposed beyond one side edge of the bend and the longer end porv tion having an o'set extremity disposed beyond the opposite end edge of the bend.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
FLOYD n LAU.
