SHIRT-HOLDING DEVICE.
' Application filed. January 25, 1924, Serial $10. 688,413. Renewed December23g1924.
To all whom it may concern:
- Be it known that I, DUDLEY P. FAGER- STROM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Gering, in the county of Scotts Bluff and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirt-Holding Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a retaining device, to be mounted under the belt and over upper edge of the waist band of the trouser, and adapted for clamping a portion of the shirt to the waist band, whereby the shirt is held against upward displacement.
An important object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character, which is particularly well adapted for use in connection with soft or stiff bosom shirts, preventing the same from working upwardly.
A further object of the invention is to.
provide a device of the above mentioned character, which will not tear the shirt, I when used in connection therewith.
A further object of the invention is to provide a device of the above mentioned character, which is of simple construction, cheap to manufacture, and is strong and durable.
Other objects and advantages of the inventionwill be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a retaining device, embodying my invention, showing the same in use, 1
Figure 2 is a transverse section taken on line 2-2 of Figure 1,
Figure 3 is an edge elevation of the device, with the clamp opened,
Figure 4 is a similar view, with the clamp closed, and,
Figure 5 is an inner side elevation of the device.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 10 designates a section of sheet metal, or other suitable material, which is bent to provide an upwardly extending outer U-shaped portion 11, adapted to engage beneath, and
receive therein, the belt 12. Formed intes with thi shar 1 9% see portion 10 is a resilient clamp 18, attached thereto at 19.' The opposite side of the clamp is moved inwardly by means of a pivot cam 20, as shown.
In the use of the device, as indicated in Figures 1 and 2, the upstanding U-shaped portion 11 engages beneath and receives the belt '12, while the inner inverted U-shaped portion 13 engages over and receives the waist band 14 of the trouser. A portion of the shirt is folded and passed within the U-shaped portion 13 and the cam 20 is then swung upwardly, whereby the resilient clamp 18 will securely clamp, the shirt to the waist band, these parts being securely held within the inverted U-shaped portion is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts, may be resorted to, without departing from the spirit of my invention, or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A device for preventing the upward movement ofa shirt or the like, comprising a strip bent to form an outer substantially U-shaped member facing upwardly for the reception of the belt and an inverted downwardly facing substantially U-shaped member for engaging over the waist band of the trouser and for receiving a portion of the shirt therein, said last named member having lateral extensions adjacent to its lower end and clamping means carried by the last It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described facing upwardly for engaging beneath the belt and receiving the same therein, an inverted substantially U-shaped inner member secured to the first named member and adapted to engage over the waist band of the trouser and to receive a portion of the shirt therein, said last named member having its lower endextende'cl laterally beyond the edges of the same for substantial distanoes and rounded to prevent tearing of 10 the shirt, and clamping means carried by the last named member for engagement with the shirt.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
DUDLEY P. FAGERSTROM.
