Description

June 9, 1936. M. HAWIE 2,043,751
, GARMENT SUPPORTER Filed Dec. 2, 1935 Patented June 9, 1936 PATENT OFFICE GARMENT SUPPORTER Michael Hawie, Greens Farms, Conn., assignor 3) The Hawie Manufacturing 00., Bridgeport,
Application December 2, 1935, Serial No. 52,576 2 Claims. (Cl. 224-245) This invention relates to improvements in garment supporters and more especially to novel means for fastening a button-tab member to the loop member of such a supporter.
The primary purpose of the invention is to secure the tab to the loop Without weakening either.
A further object is to'provide fastening means by which the tab is secured to the loop in such a Way .as to reinforce rather than weaken the tab.
Another object is to supply fastening means whereby the tab may be secured to the loop by the same member which connects the loop to the eye of the garment supporter.
A still further object is to provide novel fastening means for securing the tab to the loop in a simple, inexpensive and durable manner.
With the foregoing objects outlined and with other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel features hereinafter disclosed in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and. more specifically set forth in the appended claims.
In the drawing:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of my improved structure.
Fig. 2 is a. sectional view of the same, taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a rear elevation with the tab in extended position.
Figs. 4 and 5 are an elevation and a side edge view respectively of the tab.
Fig. 6 is a sectional view of a detail showing the reinforced end of the tabin position to be clamped by the fastening member.
Fig. 7 is a similar view illustrating the parts after the fastening member has been closed to clamp the reinforced end of the tab.
Referring to the drawing 8 designates a conventional metal loop member having a cross-bar 9 at its upper end which is secured to a metal eye I by means of a metal fastening member II. The latter is bent to provide an upper curled portion l2 which partially surrounds the lower bar I3 of the eye to form a hinged joint at this point. The medial portion of the fastening member is also bent to form a lower tubular portion I4 hinged to the bar 9 of the loop. The end I of the fastening member is of curved or are shaped to form a clamping lip for a purpose hereinafter described.
The button tab member I 6 may be made of any suitable material. For example, it may be formed of a strip of textile tape provided at one end with a rubber button l1 and at its opposite end with edge to bite into the of the lip furnishes a cavity to receive a part of the thickened shoulbar From the foregoing it will be understood that the assemblage is such as to prevent the slipping of the tab from the loop and to also prevent injury to the fabric forming the body of the tab.
While I have disclosed what I now consider such manner that it may be readily understood by those familiar with such articles, it is manifest that changes may be made in the details disclosed without departing from the spirit of the invention as expressed in the claims.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A garment supporter structure comprising a first member having a bar and a second button tab member, the latter being provided at one end with a reinforced shoulder,
said bar and the other end of the fastening member, the last mentioned end of the fastening member being are shaped in cross section and forming a cavity receiving said shoulder, the ends of the fastening member forming a restricted throat through which the tab extends, said throat being of less width than the thickness of the shoulder to prevent the latter from being withdrawn from the cavity.
2. A garment supporter structure comprising a loop member having an upper bar, an eye having a lower bar, and a button tab member provided at one end with a reinforced shoulder, a fastening member having one of its ends hinged to the lower bar of said eye and an intermediate portion forming a loop hinged to the upper bar of said ioop member, the reinforced shoulder exthe ends of the fastening member forming a retending into the fastening member between the stricted throat through which the tab extends,
lower bar of said eye and the free end of the said throat being of less width than the thickness fastening member, the last mentioned end of the of the shoulder to prevent the latter from being 5 fastening member being are shaped in cross secwithdrawn from the cavity. 5
tion and. forming a cavity receiving said shoulder, MICHAEL HAWIE.
