T. J. MCKEE UNDERGARMENT Filed Oct. 1'7 1922 5 JFFFPI'SOH McKee.
I N VEN TOR;
ATTORNEYS.
Patented Mar. 4, 12d.
arat TE? FECQ THOMAS JEFFERSON IMOKEE, OF WACO, TEXAS.
UNDERGARMENT.
Application filed October 17, 1922. Serial No. 595,062.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS JEFFERSON McKnE, citizen of the United States, residing at WVaco, in the county of McLennan and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Undergarments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improvement in undergarments and especially in a rear flap in combination with a web elastic belt and a fastener therefor, whereby the outer shirt may be held securely below the waist band of the trousers, thereby avoiding the inconvenience and annoyance of slipping out from the trousers and bagging around the waistline over the trousers, and also to allow the rear flap to be raised and held in place over the inner tail, said inner tail preventing the outer shirt from coming in contact with the body of the wearer.
A feature of the invention is the inner tail, which extends downward with the body of the garment to a point adjacent to and in line horizontally to the point at which the outer flap is connected to the body of the garment. Said inner tail forms a protection from contact to the body of the wearer, of the outer shirt.
Another feature of the invention is the attachment of a web elastic belt of suflicient Width to be a support to the abdomen of the wearer when buckled in place.
Another feature is the method of fastening this belt by a buckle similar in construction to a garter buckle, no button being used in connection with said fastener or that part of the belt attached to the flap.
Another feature is the construction of the back of the garment, which makes it practically impossible for the garment to pull apart or tear by the bending forward ofthe body of the wearer with the rear flap raised in wearing position.
The invention may be more clearly understood taken in connection with the drawings attached hereto, as follows:
Figure l is three quarters side view, showing the attachment of'flap and belt with fastening means, wearer in the act of drawing belt in place for fastening.
Figure 2 is a rear elevational view of the invention showing flap and belt in place.
Figure 3 is a three-quarters side view show ing the undergarment with belt in place, holding the tail of the outer shirt down at the waist line.
Figure 4 represents the flap dropped down to show the inner tail set in to the body of the undergarment.
In Figure 1, the undergarment 1 is shown, web elastic belt 2 with buckle means 3 and 4: attached to flap 6 over inner tail 6, said tail 6 extending on a line horizontally with point a, point a designating the connection of rear flap 6? to garment 1.
In Figure 3, when the outer shirt is worn belt 2 fastened by means 3 and 4; holds tail 5 in place at the waist line.
In Figure 4, flap 6 is let down with belt 2 free. Inner tail 6 extending to point a is sewed to garment along dotted line 6, space 2 indicated by dotted lines respresents the waist line.
l/Vhat is claimed is:
A union garment having an inner rear flap depending from the Waist line thereof and stitched along one side to the garment, an outer rear flap secured to the garment at points adjacent to the inner flap, and an elastic belt secured to the free upper edge of the outer flap and having fastening means at its ends, said inner and rear flaps being formed and having their inner faces free of connection to allow the rear tail of an outer shirt to be received therebetween, and said belt encircling the entire waistline of the garment so as to exert tension on the outer shirt throughout the waistline thereof and having its ends formed so as to allow the front tails of the outer shirt to be engaged over the outer face of the garment and held against the latter by the tension of the belt.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
THOMAS JEFFERSON MGKEE.
