Description

April 21, 1936, M. SCHWARTZ UNDERGARMENT Filed Sept. 22, 1954 INVENTOR A TTORNEYS Patented Apr. 21, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT orrlce 7 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in undergarments, which may be either of the union suit type or may be of the nether garment type particularly intended for use by males.
One object of the invention is to provide an undergarment having a suspensory built into the garment so as to be laundered therewith.
A further object of the invention is to provide a combined undergarment and suspensory so constructed that adjustment therebetween may be readily accomplished without the use of buckles and belts and straps which encircle the body of the wearer.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a combined undergarment and suspensory, in which a part of the suspensory serves as an interior finish or facing for the fly, while another part is adjustably attached to opposite sides of the waistband toward the front of the garment to support the male genital organs in proper position.
A practical embodiment of my invention is represented in the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 represents a front elevation of a nether garment having my invention shown therein;
Fig. 2 represents a vertical section taken in the plane of the line II--II of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrows;
Fig; 3 represents a Vertical section taken in the plane of the line IIIIII of Fig. 2 looking in the direction of the arrows;
Fig. 4 represents a detail perspective View, on an enlarged scale, of the suspensory member and a portion of the fly of the garment, and
Fig. 5 represents a transverse section taken in the plane of the line V-V of Fig. 4 looking in the direction of the arrows.
While I have shown for the purpose of illustration a nether garment, it is to be understood that the invention may be applied to a union undergarment. The nether garment is formed of any suitable material and comprises a body portion denoted: by I having a waistband 2, leg portions 3, and fly flaps 4, 5 which are held together by buttons 6 and buttonholes T on the waistband 2. The suspensory member comprises a body member 8'. of any suitable material and two narrow longitudinally disposed strips 9, I0 of tape or other similar fabric between which the opposite sides of the body member 8 are stitched as shown at ll, 12. The body member 8 is given a pouch like formation by folding the material lengthwise between the strips 9, ll] into a box plait 13, the opposite ends of which are secured together at l4, 15 to retain its form and also provide a mouth It for the pouch to receive one of the organs of the wearer. The front and rear edges of the body member 8 are protected with abinding ll which reinforces the pouch and presents a neat and attractive finish to the member.
One end of each of the strips 9, l ll'is stitched to the fly flaps 4, 5 respectively and serves as interior facing for the edges as well as stiffening the material of the fly flaps. The position of the strips 9, it between the front end of the body member 8 and the junction of the flaps of the fiy form an opening It for receiving and positioning the other organ of the wearer. The other end of the strips 9, l9 extend from the pouch rearwardly and upwardly in opposite directions to the side of the waistband 2 and are passed through openings l9 in the waistband to be tied or otherwise adjustably secured to tapes 20 having one end stitched to the waistband at 2| toward the front of the garment. In order that the strips 9, [0' may maintain a proper position in the garment at all times and with respect to the body of the wearer, I provide straps 22, 23 secured to the back portion of the garment through which the strips 9; It! respectively are free to slide.
From the foregoing it will be seen that any desired adjustment of the body member 8 may be made after the garment is positioned on the Warer, and the waist of the wearer free of any pull or drag thereon, since the member is adjusted and supported from the sides and toward the front of the waistband. Furthermore, I have provided a combined undergarment and suspensory which may be removed simultaneously with the garment, so as to be laundered therewith, thereby obviating many objectionable features of the suspensory separately-worn and suspended from a separate belt encircling the waist of the wearer and having straps and'buckles or similar fastening means.
It is' understood that various changes may be resorted to in the form, construction and arrangement of the several parts without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not intend to be limited to the details herein. shown and described except as they may be included in the claims.
What I claim is:
1. An undergarment for males including a fly provided with overlapped edges, a waistband having openings at each side thereof, guide straps secured to the back of the garment, and a suspensory member, said member comprising two longitudinally disposed strips diverging from the fly and a pouch having a tapered box plait formation secured therebetween, the front ends of said strips being secured to the overlapped edges of said fly to form interior facings therefor and the rear ends of said strips extending rearwardly, upwardly and outwardly through the guide straps and openings in the waistband, and means on the waistband connecting said last named ends of the strips for adjusting the pouch.
2. An undergarment for males including a fly, a waistband, and a suspensory member, said member comprising two longitudinal strips and a pouch having a fulled formation secured therebetween, one end of said strips being secured to the garment adjacent each other at the bottomof the fly and extending upwardly therefrom to form interior facings for the fly and the other end of said strips diverging from the bottom of the fly rearwardly, said divergent ends of the strips being adjustably connected to the sides of the waistband, whereby the front of the pouch adjacent the bottom of the fly is contracted and disposed in a fixed position and the back portion of the pouch expanded by the strips and adjusted vertically by the movement of the strips on the sides of the waistband.
3. An undergarment for males including a fly, a waistband, and a suspensory member, said member comprising two longitudinal strips and a pouch having a box plait formation secured therebetween, said plait being spaced from the fly and having a relatively narrow front portion increasing in width toward the rear, one end of said strips being secured to the garment adjacent each other at the bottom of the fly and extending upwardly therefrom to form interior facings for the fly and the other end of said strips diverging from the bottom of the fly rearwardly, said divergent ends of the strips being adjustably connected to the sides of the waistband, whereby the front of the pouch adjacent the bottom of the fly is contracted and disposed in a fixed position and the back portion of the pouch expanded by the strips and adjusted vertically by the movement of the strips on the sides of the waistband.
