M. D. DE MQS DRESS AND LINGERIE STRAP HOLDER Filed Jan. 11. 1926 INVENTOR,

UNITED- STATES MARINE D. DE MiOS, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
DRESS AND LINGERIE STRAP HOLDER.
Application filed January 11, 1926. Serial No. 80,573.
My invention relates to apparel retainers and more especially to a device to be fastened in the underturned selvage edge of the stitched seam of the shoulder of a womans dress so as to slidably receive the adjacent strap of an undergarment.
Many varieties of female undergarments have light straps which pass over the shoulders and they are prone to work or shift laterally off of the shoulder and down the upper arm.
An object of the present invention is to provide a strap holder which will be effective to hold the strap from side play and at the same time will provide for front or back slip of the dress shoulder with respect to the strap, which has little or no rearward or forward movement on the shoulder. In other words, an object is to provide means for so connecting the strap to the shoulder of the dress that the dress is not puckered or ruffled because of any gripping combination with or upon the strap.
An object is to provide a device for holding straps up and yet avoid stitching to the dress shoulder, and thus to allow for transfer of the holder from dress to dress as desired.
An important object is to provide a practically one-piece holder structure and method of making same. I
Additional objects and advantages will be made manifest in the ensuing specification of the preferred embodiment of the invention; but it is understood that modifications,
variations and adaptations may be resorted to within the spirit and principle of the invention as it is here claimed.
Figure 1 is a perspective of the strap holder as applied.
Figure 2 is an edge view of the open holder.
Figure 3 is a cr0ss-section of the holder as applied.
Figure 4 is a plan of the holder.
Figure 5 is a plan of the holder blank.
The present strap holder includes and is made up from a one-piece punching of durable, bendable metal having a lower bar 2 bent at 3 a half-circle and continuing as an upper bar 4 having a half-turn buttress 5, outwardly convex. The lower bar 2 has 1t s end turned in to form a slip-jaw 6 to yieldlngly pass across and lap on the buttress 5, which conforms closely to the recess of the slip jaw 6.
Therefore the upper part 4 and the lower part 2 are permanently joined by the bend 3 but their free ends 5-6 may be pulled apart so that a shoulder strap S may be passed into the elongated aperture between the bars 24. It is especially desired that the strap S may be entirely free to work back and forth in the holder but have lim- 1ted side play. It will be seen that my holder provides for this desired freedom of the strap within the holder.
In making the blank for the holder it is cut so as to present opposite ears 7 at the sides of the bar 4; the ears being perforated at 8 near their extremities. The cars are bent up and folded inward at 7 close down upon the top of the bar 4. The extremities of the ears are bent up in parallel relation and thus form bearings for a pivot 9 of a pin 10.
In punching the blank an integral hook 11 is formed on one edge of bar- 4. This hook is bent up and inward at 11 and given a quarter turn or twist at 11 so as to stand transverse to the bar and present its hook down toward the-bar 4 in a position to easily receive the free end of the pin 10.
This is a simple, neat, durable and easily applied, pin-fastened, free-sliding strap holder without soldered on or interlocked structural parts to break apart.
In applymg the holder the pin 10 is run throu h and along an inner lap L of the shoul er seam A of a dress D. When thus applied the lower bar 2 is sprung open and the lingerie strap S is pulled sidewise into the aperture of the holder, and the bar is closed and is held so by the slip jaw 6.
Therefore when the holder is in place the dress can shift with movement of the shoulder and carry the holder with it by sliding along the lingerie strap without puckering up t e dress as would occur if the holder were stitched to the dress and either frictionally or otherwise firmly engaged the strap with any but a perfectly loose rum ning effect.
The invention claimed is:
A device for retaining a lin erie strap and.comprising upper and lower ars joined at one end and having openable closures at the opposite ends to allow insertion of the ing portions, a pin mounted in said,por-
tions, and a keeper for the pin.
