Description
UNITED STATES Patented March 15, 1904.
FRITZ SEDLMAIR, OF MUNICH, GERMANY.
BAND-FASTENER- SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 754,714, dated March 15, 1904:.
Application filed May 8, 1903. Serial No. 156,316. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRITZ SEDLIvIAIR,a subject of the German Emperor, and a resident of Munich, Germany, have invented new and useful Improvements in Band-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to fastening devices for the ends of ready-made neckties and bows for belts, garters, and the like.
The fastening device is so constructed that the bands of a necktie or the like can be tightened according to requirement and that the ends are secured in their position by the closing of the fastening device without the use of prongs or similar devices which quickly destroy the bands. The fastening device is so arranged that it is almost invisible.
In the accompanying drawings the improved fastening device is shown.
Figure 1 represents the fastening device proper in open position. Fig. 2 is a side view of the closed fastening device. Fig. 3 is a cross-section on line A B of Fig. 2. Fig. 4
shows the guide for the band in a front. view.
Fig. 5 is a section on line. C D of Fig. 4. Figs. 6 and 7 show the fastening device applied to the bands of a necktie in front View and top view, respectively.
The fastening device is made of sheet metal or any other suitable material, and consists of two plates 1 2, which are connected at one end by means of hinges 3. One of the plates 1 has holes 4 for sewing the plate to the end of one of the bands of a necktie, garter, or the like. Theother edge, 5, of the plate 1 is rolled, so as to form a rim or bend adapted to engage a longitudinal lip 6 at the other end of part 2 of the fastening device. There are further two longitudinal flaps or tongues 7 8 stamped and bent out frompart 2, which are toothed along the free edge. 7 8 are slightly bent inwardly.
At the edge of one of the parts, 1, a lateral projection 9 is arranged, which serves as a handle to open and close the fastening device.
These flaps With the fastening device proper there is used a guide-plate 10, (shown in Figs. 4 and 5,) which by means of holes 11 is sewed to the end of the other band of the necktie, garter, or the like, and has lateral edges 12 13 bent sidewise and slightly curved inward.
The fastening device is used as follows: The
end of band 14 of the necktie, with the fastening device secured to it, is passed through the guide-plate of. the other band, 13 Plate 2 of the fastening device is placed below band 13, so that the fastening device embraces this band 13. When the bands are sufficiently tightened, the plate 2 is pressed against plate 1, so that the rim or bend'5 of said plate 1 enters the lip at plate 2, securely closing the device. The parts of the fastening device which are visible can be stained in a color corresponding to that of the band, so that the device does not show at all. A
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A fastening device for the ends of bands of ready-made neckties and the like, consisting of a plate of sheet metal adapted to be sewed to one end of the band, a rim or bend at one edge of said plate, a second plate hinged to the other end of the first plate, a lip along the free edge of the second plate for the reception of the rim or bend of the other plate, two tongues toothed at the edges stamped and bent out so as to project from the second plate, a guideplate sewed to the other end of the band, with two side edges bent sidewise and curved inside, substantially as described and shown and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand, in presence of two subscribing witnesses, this 14th day of April, 1903.
FRITZ SEDLMAIR.
