F. D. COLLINS ET AL HOOK AND BYE- Filed Dec 23. 1921 1 J fi 1m 00am; Q 77H INVENTORS BY m i WITNESSES ATTORNEY Patented June 12,1923.
UNITED STATES FRANK D. COLLINS AND THOMAS H. (JOKER, OF HARTSVILLE, SOUTHC AROLINA.
HOOK AND EYE.
Application filed December 23, 1921. Serial No. 524,472.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, FRANK D. COLLINS and THoMAs H. CoKER, citizens of the United States, residing at Hartsville, in the county of Darlington and State of South Carolina, have invented new and useful Improvements in Hooks and Eyes, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved hook and eye fastener, the general object of the invention being to provide a fastener of this character, the parts of which can be easily and quickly placed together and separated.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described,
illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which v Figure l is a view showing the two parts of the .fastener connected together.
Figure 2is an edge view with the parts separated.
Figure 3 is a side view of the eye member.
In these views the hook member is shown at A and the eye member at B. Each member is formed of wire bent into proper-shape with the extremities of the wire twisted to form eyes 1 by which the parts can be fastened to the garment. The member A is flat while the member B is provided with an inclined intermediate portion '2 which places the loop part above the plane. of the part carrying the eyes 1. Member A is of roughly U-shape with its bight bent to provide the curved hook 3, the substantially semi-circular part 4 and the horn 5. The
' hook 3 lies within the curved part 4 with the end of the hook almost engaging the part 4, and the horn 5 is formed at the junc ing part of one of the arms extendin hook 3 is adapted to engage the looped part of member B with a part of said loop rest- PATENT mice.) f
ing in the space between the hook and the! curved part 4.
When the member B is pressed against the end of the hook 3 of member A-the hook will give so as to permitthe member B to pass by and the said hook will spring forwardly and engage the eye of member B,
thus locking the parts together, the eye of member B being raised, as shown, will slide up the incline of the inside of the hook 3,
ment. To unfasten the members the limbs '60 and the horn 5 acts as a guide in this moveof member A are pressed together so as to increase the space between the ends of the hook 3 and part 4 to permit the member B to pass therethrough. The horn may be slightly curved upwardly, as shown.
It is thought from the foregoing: desorip tion that the advantages-and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
We desire it to be understood that we may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of'the several parts, provided thatsuch changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What we claim is:- i
A fastener of the class described oomprising an eye member and a substantially U-' shaped hook member, said hook member having its-bight bent back upon itself forming arms of substantially parallel inner and outer members, eyes formed on the extremities of the outer members, a tongue form- FRANK D. COLLINS.
