Description
D. D. CUTTING.
TAG FASTEMNG MEANS.
'APPLICATlON FILED NOV.14"91I- Patented June 3, 1919.
/ N VE N TOR ATTORNEY SATES PATENT OFFICE.
DON D. CUTTING, 0F SEATTLE, WASHINGTON.
TAG-FASTENING MEANS.
eoaeea.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DON D. CUTTING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of WVashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tag- Fastening Means, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in tag fastening means and has for its principal object to provide an improved and novel means for removably attaching a shipping tag to a mail bag and the like. In assembling and addressing mail bags, it is very necessary that a tag be quickly and easily at tached to the bags and at the same time attached in such a way as to prevent accidental loss of the tag. In order to accomplish the above results, applicant has devised an improved attaching means.
Other objects will appear as my invention is more fully explained in the following specification, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and pointed out in the appended claim:
In the drawings, Figure l is a side elevation of my improved tag attaching means shown attached to a tag; Fig. 2 is a plan view of same.
Referring more particularly to the drawing, Figs. 1 and 2, numeral 1 indicates a shipping tag to which a tag fastening device is secured. The tag fastening device is formed from a piece of spring wire and is provided with a loop 2 which engages the tag and at the opposite end a heart shaped eye 3 which is designed to engage a convenient eyelet on a mail bag. That portion of the tag fastener which lies intermediate the loop 2 and eye 3 is waved or crinkled as at 4.
Specification of Letters Patent.
While a closing snap 5 which is integral with the other side of the eye is also correspondingly corrugated and is provided with a downwardly extending ring 6 which normally hooks over the corrugated portion 4:, thereby closing the eye 3. It will be understood that the corrugations on the members i and 5 cooperate and assist materially in preventing relative movement between the said members, thereby assisting in holding them in locked relationship. The cooperation of the corrugations together with the inherent spring in the members 4 and 5 and the eye 3, form the means for retaining the eye in the locked position.
While I have shown a particular form of embodiment of my invention, I am aware that many minor changes therein will readily suggest themselves to others skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, and I therefore desire to avoid being limited to the exact form shown and described.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is
A tag fastening device formed in one piece of resilient wire and bent at one end to form a hook, the wire leading from the hook being corrugated and bent to formv an eye, the Wire leading from the eye being corrugated and interfitting with the corrugations on the wire between the eye and the hook, the terminal of the wire leading from the eye beingbent to engage under the wire leading from the hook, whereby to form a lock to close the eye.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
DON D. CUTTING.
