Letters Patent No. 96,083, dated Octoefr 26, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT ne BUCKLES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letten Patent and making part of the nme buckle, showing it applied.

This invention relates to a new selilfastening buckle, which can readily connect two straps, without sewing or other tedious process.
The buckle is made of two pieces, of the frame A,
. andthe tongue-piece B.
The frame consists of two side-pieces, a a, which are connected at all four Vcorners by cross-pieces b b', and near the middle by another cross-piece, c.
The tongue-plate B is pivoted transversely between the plates a, by a pivot, h, and has its outer or'swinging end provided with teeth, d, which are 'opposite to teeth c, ou the bar c.
The plate B has two tongue-pieces or pins, f and g, one projecting from each side, as shown.
The device is applied as follows:
-and described.
One strap, O, is fitted through one end of the buckle, between the bars b b, at suchend, and is drawn over the bar c, and placed upon the teeth of thesame.v The plate B is then swung down to fit the pin f, through -an aperture of the strap O, and to also, with its teeth,
clamp the end of such strap, as shown in g. 2.
The other strap, D, is fitted through the other end of the buckle, between the bars-b b', and'locked .over the tongue-piece g, the end being drawn out between the bals b, above the strap C, as shown.
.The two belts are thus securelylocked together.
By means of this buckle; every person is enabled to make .a bridle, or other piece of harness, without the aid of experts, and without difficult process.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. A buckle, having a tongue-plate, B, with teeth d on its swinging end, combined with a bar, c, having corresponding teeth aixed thereto, as set forth.
