Letters .Patent No. 82,879, dated October 6, 1868.
IMPROVED COLLAR-PASTENING.
To ALL WHoM IT MAY GONCERN; v
Be it known that we, CHARLES II. L. ROBERTS and WILLIAM C. DUDLEY, of Morrison, in the county of Whiteside, and in the State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Collar-Fastening; and` we do hereby declare that the following vis a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters of refereneemarked thereon.
In the annexed drawings,l making a part of this speeicatiou, `A represents a ordinary horse-collar, and
B represents the neck or collar-pad, one end of it secured to one'side of the collar` A, and the other end having the loop attached to it, which embraces the oppositel side of the collar, as shown.
The loop 7i is provided with, or has secured to its inside, a loop or hook, h, which catches in the holes or perforations :t x in the housing C. o
C represents a leather strap or cover for the upper end or part of the col-lar, called ahousing, which is provided with holes a: rv, in which catches the hook h.
When the hames of the harness are adjusted on the collar A, the loop l y,iwith 'its hook h, is pressed down,"
and catches in the vhole ab, and thereby holds the housing C-rmly in its place.
D D represent elastic bands or straps; and passA through suitable holes in the end of one side ofthe collar,
and loops or buckles jj, in`the endof the other side of said collar, and are then secured hymeans of the metallic clasps or loops Z l.
The buoklesjj are made of wire, doubled or bent in the formvshown, and `the ends o f said Wirehent into hooks, which catch and hold in the end of one side ofl the collar'A. l
To adjust or put' this collar on the neck of an animal, the operator pulls the sidesof it apart and slips it over the head of said animal, vwhen theelastic straps D D draw the sides up to their proper position again.
One or more elastic straps may he used, as may be'found most desirable. Having thus fully described our invention, what we claim as'new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is The arrangement of the-adjustable straps D D, looped wiresjj and Z l, with theco'llar A, provided with the pad B, loop g, and slotted housing O, all oonstruoed and used as and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that we claim the foregoing, we have hereunto set our hands, this 25th day of March, 1868.
