UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES LALLY, OF TEKAMAH, NEBRASKA.
HALTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 416,227, dated December 3, 1889. Application filed May 20,1889. smart. 311,445. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES LALLY, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Tekamah, in the county of Burt and State of Nebraska, have invented an Improved Ilalter, of which the following is a specification.
My invention consists in the construction and combination of metal coupling devices and leather straps and buckles, as hereinafter set forth, to produce a neat, strong, and durable halter that can be readily adjusted and I fitted to horses of different sizes.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings shows a square frame adapted for connecting three leather straps. Fig. 2 shows an oblong frame adapted for fixing one strap thereto and sliding on another strap. Fig. 3 is aperspective view of a coupling device adapted for adjustably connecting the nose-band and a hitching-strap. Fig. at is a view of a coupling device adapted for connecting the noseband and throat-latch and keeping them a proper distance apart. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a complete halter.
The frame a (shown in Fig. 2) has a T- shaped integral and arched frame bon its top.
The ring 0 (shown in Fig. 3) is double halfway round, and thereby adapted for connecting the ends of the overlapping parts of the noseband and a hitchingstrap.
The coupling device (shown in Fig. at) consists of a straight portion (1, that has an integral rectangular frame f at one end, and an integral rectangular frame gat the other end that is provided with an integral cross-bar h.
N o. 1 is a leather strap fixed to a common ring or frame and adj ustably connected with the frame a to extend vertically over the face of a horse.
No. 2 is a leather strap fastened at one end passed through the frame gon the end of the r bar (I and detachably and adjustably connected with the free end of the short strap by means of a buckle, so it can be fitted around a horses neck. The nose band or in such a manner that when a hitching-strap is fixed to the ring 0 and stretched it will pull the nose-band partially through the frame f, and in so doing draw it close around the horses nose, as required to apply force to his nose and to hold him securely.
I claim as my invention- An improved halter comprising a strap N o. 1, having a ring fixed to its top end and adjustably connected at its lower end with a metal coupling device composed of a frame a, that has an integral arched T- shaped bar Z), a strap No. 2, extended through and between the said frame a and the bar I) and connected with a double ring 0, a strap No. 3, adapted to encircle a horses neck, fixed to the ring at p the top end of strap No. '1, and a metal connecting-bar (7, having an integral frame f at one end and an integral frame g at the other end provided with a cross-bar h, arranged and combined substantially as shown and described.
