LEVI J. KNAUss AND GEORGE W. HINKLE, or MENDON, MICHIGAN.
HARNESS-BRIDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 299,806, dated June 3, 1884.
I Application filed March 10, 1884. (No model.) I
To all whom it may concern-.-
. Be it known that we, LEVI J. KNAUSS and GEO. W. HINKLE, of Mendon, in the county of St. Joseph and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness-Bridles; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled'in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
Our invention relates to an improvement in harness-bridles; and it consists in the combination of the front band of a harness bridle with the rubber str p, Which formsa loop upon its inner side, the metallic plates, and the screws, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
' The object of our invention is to provide a means upon the front band for keeping the brace which is attached to the winkers always in the center of the horses forehead,-and thus keep the winkers properly balanced or adjusted upon the horses head.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the front band of a bridle having our invention applied thereto. Fig. 2 represents a front view of the winkerbrace and the front band of the bridle.
A represents the front band of the bridle.
A strap or rubber, D, is applied to the inner side of the front band, and the ends of the rubber strap are then secured to the bands by means of metallic plates G and screws H. When the winkerbrace is passed through this strap, the rubber is bulged outward at the center in such amanner that the heads of the screws in the plates cannot come in contact with the horses head. The rubber being very soft, it will not hurt the horses head in any manner. Where the opening is made through the front band of the bridle, or the loop is attached to its inner side, as shown, the Winkerbrace will always be kept tightly in place, and then the winkers will retain the position it is intended they should occupy.
Having thus described our invention, we clainr The combination of the front band with the loop or strap 13, which is made of rubber, and which is attached to the inner side of the front band, for the purpose offorming a guide for the winker-brace, substantially as shown.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in presence of two witnesses.
LEVI J. KNAUSS.
. GEORGE WV. HINKLE.
