JOSEPH G. HOOHSTUHL, OF GHEVIOT, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO GOLDMAN BEGKMAN & 00., OF
CINCINNATI, OHIO, A FIRM.
GARMENT-SLEEVE To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH G. HooH- STUHL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cheviot, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment- Sleeves, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in garment sleeves, provided with a supplemental contracted wrist opening.
The object of my invention is to provide a sub-sleeve having an elastic contractible throat attached at one side to the inside lining of the main sleeve and to a foldable band to clasp the wrist of the wearer when in use to prevent wind or moisture from passing up the inside of the sleeve.
Another object of my invention is to provide a sub-sleeve within the main sleeve secured to a band, said band adapted to be folded and detachably secured to the inside sleeve lining when not in use.
The features of my invention are more fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure l is an-inside plan view of my improved garment sleeve with the sub-sleeve and band fastened out of use. Fig. 2 is a section through the sleeve, illustrating the parts in position for sub-sleeve use. Fig. 3 is a section on line w, 00, Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed March 20, 1909.
a similar section to Fig. 3, illustrating the sub-sleeve in its folded position.
1 represents an ordinary sleeve of a coat and lining, which sleeve and lining are of usual out composed of under and upper sections, stitched together.
1 2 represents aband secured to the lining, between the seams of the under and upper sections.
3 represents a sub-sleeve, a portion of which is stitched directly to the inside lining of the main sleeve, and the remainder portion, approximately one-half, to the inside portion of the band 2.
The band and sub-sleeve arepreferably formed from a single piece of material and folded into shape, and as illustrated in Fig.
2 the band'comprises a double thickness of Patented Aug. 17, 1909.

material folded inward at each end, meeting and stitched at 4, with one end projected forward forming the sub-sleeve 3. The band is provided with a button-hole 7 adapted to engage over the button 8 to secure the same upon the under portion of the lining, as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 4. The free end of the sub-sleeve is shirred and provided with an elastic draw-cord 9 so as to closely fit the wrist of the wearer when in position for use. This method of attaching a con- 'tractible sub-sleeve to a foldable band and at each end to the lining of the sleeve, and
a sub-sleeve stitched to one side of said band and lining, having an elastic contractible throat, substantially as described.
2. In a sleeve for a garment, a band stitched within the sleeve, dividing the same into two passages, an elastic contractible subsleeve secured to one side of the band and adjacent portion of the sleeve lining, and means for detachably securing the band to the lining, substantially as described.
3. A sleeve, a foldable band stitched at each end to the inside of the sleeve, a subsleeve having a contractible throat, a portion of which is stitched to the main sleeve lining and the remainder of the sub-sleeve to the band, dividing the sleeve alternately into a free and a contracted passage, substantially as described. I
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand.
JOSEPH G. HOCHSTUHL.
