COLUMBIA PLANOORAPH co., WASHINGTON. D. C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ABRAM HOFFMAN, OF MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA.
TROUSERS.
To all whom it may concern."
Be it known that I, ABRAM HOFFMAN, resident of 1520 Mance street, in the city and district of Montreal, Province of Quebec, Dominion of Canada, a citizen of the United States of America, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
The invention relates to improvements in trousers, and the object of the invention is to enhance the general appearance of trousers, particularly outing trousers, on the waist line, to save the loss and displacement of belts, and generally to provide a garment of neat appearance and comparatively cheap to manufacture, and it consists essentially of a half belt formed of two pieces permanently secured to the trousers and buckling in front and having tightening arrangements at their rear ends.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the upper portion of a pair of trousers, showing the belt attachment. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the waist line of the trousers.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
Referring to the drawings, 1 is the waist of the garment, here shown as having the customary fly 2 and the pockets 3.
4 and 5 are sections of a belt, the section 4 having a plurality of buckle holes 6 therethrough toward one end of it and at the other end a button hole 7 the section 5 having at one end thereof the buckle 8 and the strap loop 9 adjacent to said buckle and at the other end the button hole 10. The sections 4 and 5 are securely stitched adjacent to the button hole ends, but to the inside of said button hole, to the waist 1 at the seams 11, just over the pockets 3, so that the but ton hole ends of the belt sections 4 and 5 eX- tend beyond the seams 11.
12 are buttons slightly beyond the seams 11 and to which the button hole ends are buttoned without causing any fold in the waist 1. 13 are buttons slightly beyond the buttons 12 and to which the button hole ends are also buttoned after being unbuttoned from the buttons 12 and in this position there will be folds in the waist line between the seams 11 and the buttons 13, thus shortening the waist line at two places diametri- Specification of Letters Patent.

cally oppositeone another. The sections at the button hole ends preferably taper off to the points 14.
In the use of this invention, the sections are buckled together as usual by inserting the section 4 into the buckle at the end of section 5 and they may be drawn up by this strap and buckle over the fly and also drawn up, if necessary, for a smaller waist by buttoning the button hole ends on to the far buttons, therefore, the trousers around the waist line are taken in in three places. This, as far as I am aware, is entirely novel for belt construction and as a neat appearing garment, it is very attractive to the consumer and extremely eflective in outing trousers.
WVhat I claim as my invention is:
1. In trousers, a pair of straps or belt sections permanently stitched between their ends to the side seams of the trousers, fastening means secured to the front ends of said straps for securing them together at the front of the waist line and fastening means for detachably securing said rear ends to the trousers.
2. In trousers, a pair of, straps or belt sections permanently secured toward the rear ends thereof at the sides of the trousers forming flaps with button holes extending rearwardly from said fastening, said straps overlapping at their front ends, a plurality of buttons secured to the trousers to the rear of each of said fastenings of the straps to the trousers, and means attached to the front ends of the straps for fastening them over the trouser fly.
3. In trousers, a pair of straps or belt sections stitched to the side seams of the trousers above the side pocket line and forming a pair of end flaps from each side seam, said end flaps having fastening means therein, a plurality of fastening devices arranged in a row on the waist line to the. rear of said side seams and coacting with said fastening devices on the said end flaps, and adjustable means for fastening the straps together at the front.
Signed at the city and district of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, this 17th day of April, 1911.
