T o all-whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FELIX KIVI,f the city and county of San Francisco, in the State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pants and Overalls; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

The present invention has relation to certain improvements in pants and overalls; and it consists in the peculiar construction and manner of attaching the double pockets; also, providing a novel arrangement of a draw-strap fortighteningand fastening theoveralls around the waist of the wearer, said strap being fastened to the flap of the inside pocket after it has been tightened, so as to draw the flap close.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front view of the upper part ofa pair of overalls with my improvement applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a back view. Fig. 3 is a view taken for the rear or inside of the front part of the overalls.

Let A represent a pair of pants or overalls.

Each of the front pockets I make with two compartments, so as to form each into a double pocket. To do this I take the pocket-shaped pieces I) and 0, corresponding with each other in shape, but not in size, the piece 1) being larger than the piece 0. I then stitch the piece 0 to the piece I), so as to form an actual pocket, leavingthe edge of the pocket-piece 1) projectin g beyond the edge of the pocket 0 all around it. I then stitch the edge of the pocket-piece b to the inside of the pants or overalls front and to the waistband, like an ordinary pocket, so that the pants or overalls material will be on the outside. 1 leave the usual pocket-opening in the pants or overalls, so that when the hand is inserted it can be passed into either the outer or inner pocket, as desired. In stitching the projecting edge of the pocket-piece b to the pants or overalls I-do not draw it tight,

'so as to lie smooth, but I draw it in so as to allow a fullness at the bottom of the outer pocket, that will fold down like a bellows, thus giving room in it for articles usually carried in it without making the pocket bulge outward, as the fullness causes the bulge to be inward. The inner pocket, however, lies smooth and straight.

On each side of the pants or overalls I sew on the outside an extra piece of cloth or other material, 6, which extends from the outer edge of the pocket around the side below the waistband and to near the back, leaving a space of two or three inches between them at the back. The top and bottom of each piece is stitched to the pants, but the ends at the back and at the front, opposite the pockets, are left open, so that the draw-strap can pass through between them and the pants or overalls material.

To the edge of each piece 6, at the back of the pants orvoveralls, I stitch or otherwise secure one end of a leather orother strap, f. One of these straps is wider than the other, and it has a portion cut out of it as wide as the other or narrow strap, so that the narrow strap can pass through the opening. After the narrow strap has been passed through the opening in the wide strapthe two straps are passed in opposite directions underneath and between the pieces 6 and the pants or overalls material, and their ends aredrawn out through the cut or opening opposite the pocketsin front. Each belt or strap hasanumber of button-holes made in its opposite edges alternately, asshowu at Fig. 2, so as to bring them close together without weakening the belt, and after the belts are drawn tight they are each fastened to a button, t, on the flap of the inner pocket. This draws the inner pocket-flap closeup against the person, so that that pocket is practically closed, leaving the outer pocket open and free for ordinary use.

It will be noticed that the same strap that tightens the pants or overalls upon the person securesthe pocket, so that if the strap should be out or otherwise separated from the pocketflap the pants or overalls areloosened, so that they will drop down, thus notifying the wearer that his safety-pocket'is open.

I thus provide a very convenient arrangement for tightening and fastening the pants or overalls around the waistof the wearer, and at the same time provide a safety-pocket, in which valuable articles can be kept without fear of their being lost or stolen. or belt thus applied do not cross the front opening in the pants or overalls, so that they do not have to be loosened or detached when it is desired to unbutton the front opening.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

1. In pants or overalls, the two pocket-pieces be, of unequal size, stitched together as described, so as to form an inner safety-pocket, said pocket being again stitched to the pants, so as to leave a fullness in the outside pocket, substantially as specified.
