Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MORRIS HANDELSMAN, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIG-NOR TO ADOLPH KLINGER .AND AARON BACH, TRADING AS KLINGER & BACH, 0F NEW YORK, N. Y.
BLOUSE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 20, 1914.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, Morals HANDELSMAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New Y'ork city, borough of the Bronx, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Blouse, of which the following is a full, clear, and eX- act description.
This invention relates to improvements in wearing apparel, and particularly to blouses, and has for an object to provide an improved structure arranged on the waist line of the blouse for permitting any desired adjustment.
Another object of the invention is to provide a plurality of adjusting straps arranged on the waist line of the blouse at a point spaced from the front so that the front may be buttoned from top to bottom, if desired, without interfering with the adjustment.
A still further obj ect of the invention is to provide an adjustment for blouses comprising a strap arranged in loops in the blouse and a plurality of buttons co-acting with the buttonholes of the strap so that the strap may be puckered or taken up and inserted in its restricted or taken-up condition so as to lessen the size of the waist line of the blouse in order that the same may properly fit.
In carrying out the object of the invention, any desired form of blouse is provided. The invention is designed especially for use in blouses which fold at the lower end for covering the waist line, and which carry adraw string for tightening the waist line, the draw string being adjusted and tied on each application of the blouse. According to the present structure of blouse the same may be provided with buttons or other securing means from top to bottom which may be fastened and unfastened at will without in any way interfering or changing the adjustment of the waist line which is adjusted or changed by the manipulation of straps arranged on the hips or at other desired points along the waist line. These straps are secured at opposite ends to certain points of the waist line of the blouse, and are formed with buttonholes co-acting with a pair of buttons secured to the blouse at the waist line, the buttons being designed to interlock with any of the buttonholes of the strap so that if the strap is drawn for tightening the waist line and properly interlocked with the buttons the adjustment of the blouse will remain whether or not the front is open or closed.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 discloses a figure on which a blouse is posit-ioned, the same disclosing the embodiment of the invention; Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary side view of the blouse showing one of the straps and associated parts; Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section through part of the structure shown in Fig. 2, the strap being shown bowed centrali whereby the waist line of the blouse is of ess dimension; and Fig. 4 is a horizontal section through a waist embodying the invention, the same showing the position and arrangement of the adjusting straps and associate parts, together with front securing means.
Referring to the accompanying drawings by numeral 1 indicates a blouse formed with a portion 2 designed to fold or fall over the waist line 3. During the ordinary wear of the blouse portion 2 falls over the waist line 3, but in order to illustrate the invention the same is shown as raised. It will be noted that the various securing means 1 are arranged from the top to the bottom of blouse 1, and may be readily fastened or unfastened whenever desired without in any way affect ing the adjusting members 5 and 6. These adjusting members are identical in structure, but are arranged on opposite sides of the blouse as shown in Fig. 1, whereby the description of adjusting members 5 will equally apply to adjusting members 6. The adjusting member 5 (Fig. 2) is formed with a strap 7 having a plurality of buttonholes 8. Strap 7 is connected at each side by a line of stitching 9 to the waist line of the blouse 1. A looped or folded over portion 10 is provided for sliding the strap 7 and properly holding the same in place, this looped portion being cut away at the point the retaining buttons 11 and 12 are connected with the waist line 3. The buttons 11 and 12 are secured to the waist line 3 and arranged relatively in one place while the stra-p 7 is properly adjusted for taking up as much of the waist line as desired. By arranging the adjusting members 5 and 6 above the hips as shown in Fig. 4, four adjustments are provided around the waist line in order to cause the same to properly iit.
If one end of the strap, for instance, was taken up and a new buttonhole interlocked with button l1 the space between button l1 and the 'front of the blouse would be adjusted. It the strap 7 was held so that a different button-hole to that shown in Fig. 2 would interlock with button l2 the space between the adjusting member 5 and the rear of the blouse would be taken up or adjusted. These same adjustments would apply to the opposite side of the blouse. By adjusting the waist line as described no objectionable puckering is presented, and the waist line is caused to evenly and properly fit. After a particular garment has been litted to a person no further adjustment need be made as the blouse may be taken off and put back on `again without touching the adjusting means, the strap 7 and associate parts. By providing the straps on the sides the usual draw string now commonly in use is eliminated and the objectionable showing thereof is obviated.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a blouse of the character described, a body formed with an opening in the front, means for securing said opening together, a tubular waist band secured to the bottom of said blouse7 said tubular waist band being opened at each side, a pair of buttons arranged in said open portion of said waist band, and an adjusting strap arranged in said waist band at each side thereof, said adjusting strap being secured at each end to said waist band, and being formed with buttonholes for accomlnodating said buttons, the adjustment of said buttonholes on said buttons va rying the size of the waist line.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
A. L. KITGHIN, PHILIP D. ROLLHAUS.
