Claims priority, application Great Britain October 3, 1955 8 Claims. (Cl. 150-42 This invention is for improvements in or relating to bottles and like containers and covers therefor, and has for one of its objects to provide a more efficient form of cover than has heretofore been available. Another object is to improve the appearance of the covered container and provide extra comfort. The invention is particularly applicable to rubber hot water bottles such for instance as described in United States Patent No. 2,215,392.
According to the invention there is provided a flexible cover for a bottle or like container of the type of container having a neck of circular or like cross-section terminating in a mouth which is fitted with a detachable closure, which cover comprises a body portion to envelope the container having a closable opening at its end adjacent to the mouth of the container to afford access to said mouth, and also comprises an internal shroud attached at its periphery to the body portion of the cover and having an elastic ring to surround and grip the neck of the container below the mouth. Thus although the container can be readily filled and emptied, it is retained in proper position in relation to the cover by the grip of the said elastic ring on its neck, the intention being that the cover shall not be removed from the container.
The said opening in the body portion of the cover may be closed in various ways, but it is preferred that it shall be fitted with a fastener of the sliding clasp continuous type.
Conveniently, the shroud is of rubber, integral with the elastic ring. The material of the shroud need not terminate at the ring but may extend some distance below the latter around the neck of the container.
If the aforesaid shroud is formed of thin flexible sheet material it is sometimes advantageous if it has attached to its surface pads of such shape and disposition that, when the opening in the cover is closed, they fill out the spaces on both sides of the neck between the shoulders of the container and that end of the cover in which the closable opening is situated. It will be appreciated that the pads will prevent the main faces of the cover collapsing at the positions at which they are situated and thus will not only improve the appearance of the article but act as cushions and provide extra comfort.
Preferably the pads are located on the hidden or under face of the shroud, and there may be four pads provided which form two coinciding pairs, one pair of each side of the container neck, when the shroud is folded to permit the opening in the cover to be closed.
The end of the cover in which the closable opening is situated will usually be of rounded formation to reach from the shoulders of the container around the closed mouth of the latter and with such a construction each pad may be of quadrant shape and be arranged with the straight sides opposed to the neck and shoulders of the container.
For a more complete understanding of the invention, there will now be described, by way of example only and with reference to the accompanying drawings, certain constructions of fiexible covers for hot water bottles according to the invention. It is to be understood, however, that the invention is not restricted to the precise constructional details set forth.

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the mouths of the bottle and of its cover open,
Figure 2 is an end view, partly in section, showing the parts in the same position as in Figure 1,
Figure 3 is a front view of the upper parts only of the bottle and its cover with the mouths thereof closed,
Figure 4 is a plan with the parts in the same position as in Figures 1 and 2, and
Figure 5 is a plan with the parts in the same position as in Figure 3.
Like reference numerals indicate like parts throughout the drawings.
The invention is shown as applied to a rubber hot water bottle, such for instance as described in United States Patent No. 2,215,392, the neck of the bottle being shown at It and the closure at 11. The body portion of the cover comprises two main sheets 12 and 13, usually of cloth or fabric, connected by a relatively narrow strip 14 running completely around the peripheries of these main sheets. This strip 14 is slit at one end of the cover to provide an opening adjacent to the bottle neck 10 and this opening is closable by a fastener 15 of the slidablc clasp continuous type. As shown in Figure 3, the end of the cover in which this opening is formed is of rounded formation and reaches from the shoulders 16 of the bottle around the closed mouth of the latter so that when the opening is closed by the fastener 15 the bottle will be completely enveloped by the body portion of the cover. The opening in the end of the body portion may reach completely along this rounded formation so as to afford easy access to the mouth of the bottle. The remainder of the cover will usually be of flattened rectangular shape. The cover also comprises a flexible internal shroud 17 which will usually be made of rubber and be integral with an elastic ring 18 which grips the neck 10 of the bottle. As will be seen from Figure 3, the mouth of the bottle and the sealing skirt of the closure 11 will be located above the elastic ring 18 when the bottle and cover are closed. The shroud 17 has a circular centric with the elastic ring 18, this periphery being securely attached, say by sewing, to the interior of the cover. This sewing extends around the inside of the opening in the cover from positions adjacent to the extremities of the shoulders of the bottle. The shroud will fold as necessary when the opening in the cover is closed. Figure 3 shows that the material of the shroud 17 does not terminate at the ring 18 but extends some distance below the latter around the neck 10, being cut away to reach past the shoulders 16.

Figure 5 makes it clear that when four pads 19 are provided, they will form two coinciding pairs, one pair on each side of the neck 10 when the shroud 17 is folded to permit the opening in the cover to be closed by the fastener 15.

It is to be understood that the invention is not restricted to the precise constructional details set forth.
'I claim:
1. For a containcrhaving a round neck terminating in a mouth which is fitted with a detachable closure, at flexible cover comprising in combination a body portion to envelope the container and its closure and having a closable opening at its end adjacent to the mouth of the container to afford access to said mouth, an internal shroud attached at its periphery to the body portion of the cover and having an elastic ring to surround and grip the neck of the container below the mouth, and fastening means for closing the opening in the body portion to completely envelop the container and its closure.
2. A flexible cover according to claim 1, wherein the body portion of the cover comprises two sheets of fabric connected by a narrow strip of fabric running completely around the peripheries of the sheets, said strip having a slit at one end of the cover to provide the closable opening adjacent to the mouth of the container.
3. For a rubber hot Water bottle having a neck of circular cross-section terminating in a mouth which is fitted with a detachable closure, a flexible cover comprising in combination a body portion to envelope the betas and its closure and having a closable opening at its end adjacent to the mouth of the bottle to afiord access to said mouth, an internal rubber shroud attached at its periphery to the body portion of the cover and integral with an elastic ring to surround and grip the neck of the bottle below the mouth, and fastening means for closing the opening in the body portion to completely envelop the container and its closure.
4. For a rubber hot water bottle having a neck of cirkcu'lar cross-section terminating in a mouth which is fitted with a detachable closure, a flexible cover comprising in combination a body portion to envelope the bottle and its closure and having a closable opening at its end adjacent to the mouth of the bottle to afford access to said mouth, an internal rubber shroud attached at its periphery to the body portion of the cover, integral with an elastic ring to surround and grip the neck of the bottle below the mouth, and continuing below said ring around the neck of the bottle, and fastening means for closing the opening in the body portion to completely envelop the container and its closure.
5. For a container having a round neck terminating in a month which is fitted with a detachable closure, 21 flexible cover comprising in combination a body portion to envelope the container having a closable opening at its end adjacent to the mouth of the container to afford access to said mouth, an internal shroud of thin flexible sheet material attached at its periphery to the body portion of the cover and having an elastic ring to surround and grip the neck of the container below the mouth, and pads attached to the surface of the shroud of such shape and disposition that, when the opening in the cover is closed, they fill out the spaces on both sides of the neck between shoulders on the container and that end of the cover in which the closable opening is situated.
6. For a container having a round neck terminating in a mouth which is fitted with a detachable closure, a flexible cover comprising in combination a body portion to envelope the container having a closable opening at its end adjacent to the mouth of the container to afford access to said mouth, an internal shroud of thin flexible sheet material attached at its periphery to the body portion of the cover and having an elastic ring to surround and grip the neck of the container below the mouth, and
I pads attached to the hidden under surface of the shroud of such shape and disposition that, when the opening in the cover is closed, they fill out the spaces on both sides of the neck between shoulders on the container and that end of the cover in which the closahle opening is situated.
7. For a container having a round neck terminating in a mouth which is fitted with a detachable closure, 21 flexible cover comprising in combination a body portion to envelope the container having a closable opening at its end adjacent to the mouth of the container to aflord access to said mouth, an internal shroud of thin flexible sheet material attached at its periphery to the body portion of the cover and having an elastic ring to surround and grip the neck of the container below the mouth, and four pads attached to the surface of the shroud in such manner as to form two coinciding pairs, one pair on each side of the container neck, when the shroud is folded to permit the opening in the cover to be closed.
8. For a flat container having a round neck terminating in a month which is fitted with a detachable closure, a flexible cover comprising in combination a body portion to envelope the container having a rounded end with a closable opening therein adjacent to the mouth of the container to afford access to said mouth, an internal shroud of thin flexible sheet material atatched at its periphery to the body portion of the cover and having an elastic ring to surround and grip the neck of the con tainer below the mouth, and four pads attached to the surface of the shroud in such manner as to form two coinciding pairs, one pair on each side of the container neck, when the shroud is folded to permit the opening in the cover to be closed, each of which pads is of quadrant shape arranged with the straight sides opposed to the neck and shoulders of the container and with the rounded side opposed to the rounded end of the cover.
