PROTECTIVE COVERING FOR ICE-BAGS.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALICE L. SLATAPER, a,v citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris, State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Protective Coverings for Ice-Bags; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in protective coverings, and particularly to protective coverings for ice bags or caps.
One object of the invention is to provide a simple and cheap device which is adapted to be applied to an ice cap or bag to protect the bed clothing from becoming wet due to the sweating of the bag.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which is of such simple construction that it can be readily applied to or removed from the ordinary ice bag or cap now in use.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.
In the drawing: Figure 1 is a side elevation of an ice cap or bag having my protective covering applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a vertical transverse sectional view through the cover and bag; Fig. 3 is a plan view of the cover removed.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawing, 10 represents an ice cap or bag of ordinary construction, which is provided in the central portion of the upper side with a threaded filling tube 11 for the application of a closure cap 12.
My protective covering is made from a water-proof cloth such as is used in making cloth raincoats, camera focusing cloths, etc., and is in the shape of a circular or other contoured sheet 12 and is provided with a central opening 13 which is adapted to fit around the filling tube 11 of the ice cap. A piece of suitable material 14 is sewed around the wall of the opening, and Within this piece of material is a circular strip of rubber 15, so that the wall of the opening will be drawn into firm engagement with the filling tn 8.
From the foregoing it will be understood that when the ice bag is placed on the patient lying in bed, and it is necessary to draw the covers over the patient, the sweating of the bag would naturally wet the covers. With the use of my protective covering, the bed clothing would rest thereon and thus be protected against the moisture due to the sweating of the bag.
The device is of extremely simple and cheap construction and can be quickly and easily applied to or removed from an ice bag, and by reason of the rubberspring in the opening, the same will be held in proper position and will not become lost or misplaced from the ice bag.
What is claimed is:
The combination with an ice bag havin a,
filling tube, of a protective covering there or consisting of a circular piece of waterproof fabric having a central opening receiving the said tube therethrough, and an elastic element secured continuously around the wall of the opening, whereby said cover is held in firm engagement with the tube.
