To all whom it may concern;

Be it known that I, Ivr L. BAUGH, citizen of the United States, residing at Richmond, in the county of Henrico and State of Virginia, have invented new and useful Improvements in Jewelry-Cases, of which the following is a specification.

The object of the invention is to permit articles of jewelry and the like to be taken by bathers at a public bathing place, into the water without danger of the articles being damaged thereby.

To this end the invention consists in a water-proof case adapted to be suspended from the neck of the bather and to occupy a minimum space and to be comparatively light so as not to interfere with the move ments of the bather.

The above and other objects will appear and be better understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which:

The receptacle is formed of any suitable water-proof material such as metal as shown, and conforms to the contour of a watch case. This structure, however, is shown merely to illustrate one embodiment of the invention. The bottom 5 has an eye 6 adapted to engage the hook 7 of a watch chain and hold the same and the watch connected thereto, against displacement when the device is in use.

A strip 8 of soft non-liquid absorbing material such as cork, is suitably secured to the inner face of the side wall 9 of the receptacle. This strip 8 is somewhat greater in width than the side wall 9 so that the outer side portion 10 thereof, extends beyond the outer edge of the side wall 9.

The bottom 5 is lined with soft material such as chamois 11 and a similar lining 12 is secured on the inner face of the top 13. The inner surface of the side 14 of the top is screw-threaded as shown at 15, this screwthreaded portion engaging with a similarly screw-threaded portion on the exterior of the side wall 9.

The device is suitably adapted to be connected to the body of the user, and for purposes of illustration I have shown it adapted to be suspended from the neck. In this connection any preferred structure may be employed such as a flexible hanger 16 of tape, which has its ends suitably secured in eyes 17 connected to the side wall 9 and so positioned that when the hanger is around the wearers neck the hook 6 will be at the highest portion of the receptacle.

When the cover is screwed onto the receptacle as shown in Fig. 2 the extending side portion 10 of the strip 8 will be compressed by the top 13 whereby a watertight joint will be formed so as to prevent the entrance of water into the receptacle.

The receptacle and its cover are herein shown to be of metal and drawn into the shapes shown. It will be understood however that this structure need not be adhered to since the device may be of rubber in which event it would be molded into the shape shown. But if the device be formed of materials different from those described the particular and most economical method of working such materials will, of course, be adhered to. If desired however, the receptacle and its cover may each be formed of a plurality of pieces soldered or otherwise se cured together.

In reference to the hanger it may be stated that this element may be constructed so as to embrace the neck or other part of the anatomy from which the bather desires to suspend the case, a slide 18 being arranged on the hanger so as to adjust the same to various portions of the body.

Although I have shown and described one embodiment of the invention it is to be understood that I am not to be limited to the showing and description thereof, since it will be manifest that various changes may be made, in the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
