Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 11, 191'5'.
" Application filed May 8, 1914. Serial No. 837,192.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY P. RiNDsKoPF, a citizen of the United States, and aresident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Bathing-Cap, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Among the principal objects which the present invention has in view are: to provide a cap of the character mentioned, which may be placed in wearing position and re-' moved therefrom without disarranging the hair of the wearer; to provide a retaining device for a cap of the character mentioned, which may be installed without injuring the arrangement of the hair of the wearer; and to reduce the cost and simplify the construction of caps of the character mentioned.
Drawings.-Figure 1 is a side view of a cap constructed and arranged in accordance with the present invention, the same being shown in service position with the retaining device or band in relaxed or out-of-service position; Fig. 2 is a similar view, showing the band in service position; Fig. 3 is a front view in perspective, of a ca and'retaining band therefor, constructe and arranged in accordance with the present invention.
Description.. As seen in the drawings,- the cap ;8 is constructed from any suitable material, the'requisite quality of which is that it shall be impervious'to water. A popular form of cap heretofore has been that wherein some form of rubber or elastic material has been employed. This has been used for the reason principally that tl.o lower edge or band of the cap has been used to contract upon the head of the wearer, and thereby prevent the intrusion of Water under the cap. This construction has,
among other disadvantages, had the disadvantage that the head opcning of the cap. requires the distention or expansion thereof to pass the hair of the wearer when the hair is arranged in the usual style. The disarrangcment or confusion of the hair incident to placing the cap in scrviceposition has been equal to, if not exceeded by, the effort required to remove the cap.
' or loop 9 is provided.
manently secured to the cap, and preferably In the present invention, the above-mentioned diffieulties are avoided by constructing the head opening for the body of the cap 8 sufliciently large to freely pass over the hair as dressed or arranged. To retain the cap in service position, the elastic band The loop 9 is perat the front thereof, under the knot 10 or other Sllltilbld covering ornament.
The cap may be provided at theopening edge with a contracted band, or with a raw edge. lhe latter has been found to be the most desirable, as affording the least resistance to the contraction of the loop 9.
As seen in the drawings, the operation of .placing a cap such as indicated by the nu meral S, in wearing position, is to simply place the same over the head, the distention ot the opening in the cap being sufficient to permit this action without disarranging the \Vhen the cap is placed,
hair of the wearer.
the loop 9 is grasped, and drawn downward to the nape of the neck, adjacent the edge of the "cap there located. \Vhen the loopis now released, it will be foundthat it con tracts upon the head'and the intervening "fixedly attached to saidv body adjacent the edge thereof and adapted to extend over and contract upon the remainder of the body, to hold the same in contact with the head of the wearer.
A cap as characterized, having a contractible endless loop, a portion of which is fixedly attached to the body, to form a con tractible headband therefor.
i. A bathing cap comprising abody portion having an enlarged head opening, a
section of the edge of said opening being gathered for partly contracting the same:
and an endless elastic 100p fixedly attached name to this specification in the presence of to said body portion and to the contracted two subscribing Witnesses.
section thereof, said 100p being adapted to HENRY P. RINDS'KOPF. extend over said body portion for coiltract- Witnesses: 5 ing the remainder of said head openindg. 4 NiLLIAM J. HAYES, In testimony whereof I have signe my E. F. IVIURDOCK.
