CAP COVER Filed July 21, 1939 wrrwzssss INVENTOR Patented Feb. 4, 1941 UNITED STATES.
This invention relates to protecting devices or covers for headwear and particularly to an improved cover for a cap having a vizor, an object being to provide a construction which will maintain the general pleasing appearance of the cap while protecting the same against moisture or dust.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cap cover which is adapted to cover all parts of the. cap except the vizor and, in addition, provided with a depending hood or apron so as to cover the neck and part of the shoulders of the person wearing the cap.
In the accompanying drawing- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a cap with a band and apron embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the band and cape removed from the cap;
Fig. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view through Fig. 2 approximately on the line Referring to the accompanying drawing by numerals, I indicates a cap of the kind that has an enlarged upper part and a vizor. Caps of this kind are used by members of military or other organizations and police oflicers.
When the cap I is in proper position it presents a pleasing appearance and gives a military appearance to the person wearing the same. However, in case the cap becomes wet the pleasing appearance will be reduced appreciably and also the cap will be somewhat damaged. To avoid these objections, a band 4 is provided and formed with non-elastic binding I2 and a hem I3 having an elastic webbing I4 arranged therein connected to the binding I2 substantially at opposite sides of the band. By reason of the elastic member I4, band 4 may be moved over the upper part of the cap down into the position shown in Fig. 1;
An apron or hood I5 is connected to the lower edge or lower hem IB of band 4 so as to protect the neck and. shoulders in case of rain. The apron I5 is preferably formed of two parts, namely, parts I! and I8, which are connected together along lines I9 and 20. Suitable bindings 2i and. 22 are provided at the upper and lower parts of the apron I5 and binding members are arranged along the connecting parts I9 and 20 so that suitable stitching may be, used to hold the parts together. It will be understood that all the m bindings are stitched in place to reinforce the material of which the hood or other parts of the cover are made. Preferably the various panels of the cover and also the members I! and I8 are made of Cellophane or some other desired com- 15 paratively light material which is transparent or partly transparent. It will also be understood that the material must be water-proof. The apron I5 is provided with an opening 23 which is arranged immediately below the vizor of the cap 20 I, whereby the nose and eyes of the person wearing the cap will be exposed.
I claim:
A cover for a cap, said cap formed with a top, a depending annular band of an even width 2 throughout and a vizor connected to the edge of the band, said cover including a tubular band of even width throughout and adapted to snugly fit over and completely cover said depending band and a tubular apron secured along its top edge to 30 the bottom edge of said tubular. band, said apron flaring from said tubular band downwardly, said apron having at the front a cutaway portion extending from said tubular band downwardly for approximately half the length of the apron and 35 wide enough at the top portion for accommodating said vizor and also the nose of the person wearing the cap.
