Specification of Letters Patent.

Application led March 31, 1919. Serial No. 286,305.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, PAUL GLAMzo, a citizen of Russia, and a resident of New York, borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Bathers Purse, of which the following is a full, clear, and eXact description.

This invention relates to water tight purses-for bathers use, and particularly appertains to water tight cases of all kinds which may be carried on the person.

A broad purpose of the invention is to provide a special design of case fitted with a compression packing which will give a hermetically sealed seam or joint along the contacting edges of the opening portions of the case. It is also a purpose to provide a case which may be used' by bathers for carryin moneys, jewels or tobaccos and thoroug ly protecting same from injurlous eHects of water or moisture. Another feature of the invention resides in means for attaching the water tight case or purse to the person of the wearer and thus securely retain same throughout any long period of bathing or other pastime excursions.

Finally, it is an object of this invention to provide a case of the character described which will be compact, simple in construction, unlikely to get out of order, and one which will have refinement in design and strong in construction.

With the above and other objects in view the invention has relation to a certain combination and arrangement of parts, an eX- ample of which is described in the following specification, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:

' Figure 1 illustrates the application and use of the purse, showing the water tight case or purse attached to the bathing suit of a bather.

Fig. 3 illustrates a sectional View taken upon the line 3--3 of Fig. 2, and shows the case in closed position.

' Referring now more in particular to the drawings, wherein the same parts throughout the several views of the drawings are designated by the same reference characters, the numerals 1 and 2 point out hinged case portions coperating to form an inclosed purse or case. These members comprise metallic casts or stampings properly ing the packing gland rings shaped, fitted, and pivotally mounted upon a hinge pin 3. Integral eyes L are formed on the case 1 and corresponding eyes 5 are integrally formed upon the case 2. These are registered together and pinned in a hinged relation by the pin 3 as above mentioned. The upper portion of the case member 1 has formed therein the outwardly punched ear 6 which provides a catch head for receiving a locking yoke 7. The locking yoke 7 is fitted with an eye 8 pivotally mounted upon a hinge pin 9. The hinge pin 9 is mounted in a punched eye 10 formed in the cast or case member 2. The locking yoke, therefore, hinges about pin 9 and locks over the car G securely holding the case together. An outside covering or skin 2n is applied to the metal casts for giving a smooth finish to the purse and for obviating the cool feeling which metal surfaces impart to the skin of the wearers body. This covering will preferably be rubberized fabric, or any suitable water resisting material which will be flexible and soft to the touch.

Hermetically sealed packing glands 12 are placed in the case members with outwardly turned ears 13 adapted to lay between the contacting'edges of the case casts 1 and 2. These packing lands are secured in fixed position by metal 1c binder rings' 14 which are inserted in the case against the packing glands. The binder rings 14 will be soldered or sweated into the metallic casts and thus securely bind the packing glands into position. The binder rings will be inserted within the casts undery great pressure caus- 12 to compress and thus eifectually seal and close the openings adjacent the hinges and the lock yoke. The ears 13 of the packing glands will be carefully arranged between the contacting edges of the case members such that they will remain in permanent position held between said contacting edges by the binder rings. l/Vhen the case is opened and closed the locking yoke will bring the ears 13 of the packing glands together under prescured to the yoke link 16 and lays acrossy the case and attaches to the oppositely disposed link 16. This any other appropriate material and may be cemented or otherwise secured therein. I A case suspension hook 19 is hingedly attached to the case at 20. This suspension hook has formed on the upper end thereof a retaining hook 21 which is provided with a catch bar 22 fitted with integral points or barbs 23, the member 22 beingy pivoted upon the retaining hook at 24. This catch bar may be'pivoted downwardly as shown in dotted line position. This will cause the barbs 23 to move about vthe center 24 and outwardly from engagement with the bathing suit or garment which will be inserted up intoK the retaining hook for locking the purse on the person of the wearer.

The Fig. l illustrates the position of the purse attached to the bathing suit, and the purse is suspended from the suspension member 19. This position is also shown in dotted form in Fig. 3.

This type of moisture and water-proof case will lill a long felt want for use at -bathing beaches and pleasure resorts where people desire to carry their valuables for protection, and where smokers usually enjoy having ready and accessible tobacco in preserved form for use on the beach.

This water-tight purse may be made in any appropriate design shape, such as illustrated in the drawings which show the purse to have a fiat exterior surface. It may be preferred in some instances to manufacture this purse with an exterior curve or contour to fit the shape of the wearers body.

Having what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

A water tight case7 comprising. in combination; a pair of metal case members hingedly .joined together, a ring sealing gland fittedL into each case member, ears integrally formed with the packing glands and lying in position against one another between the abutting edges of the hinged case members, and metal binder rings inserted within the case members for securing the packing glands in position.
