Description
.1. RovlRA DOLL VANITY BAG Filed Feb. 26. 1923 1N VENTOR Patented Oct. 7, 1924.
UNITED ST JOSEPHINE G. ROVIR'A, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DOLL VANITY BAG.
Application filed February 26, 1923. Serial No. 621,206.
To all whom a may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPHINE (j. RovlnA, a citizen of the Republic of France and a resident of the borough of Manhattan, county, city, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Doll Vanity Bags, set forth in the following specification.
This invention relates to light handbags more particularly of the type known as vanity bags. I
The object of the invention is to produce a structure of this general class which, while it possesses all the functioning qualities of a handbag, shall at the same time give the semblance of a dressed doll.
In carrying out the general object of this invention it is a further object to form the cover for the bag out of the lower part of the upper trunk portion of a doll structure, which is severed somewhere near the waistline and provided with a downwardly extending flange serving to encircle and contain a part of the mechanism controlling the opening and closing of the bag proper.
It is a further object of the invention to combine a pendant fabric giving the semblance of the ordinary outer covering for the legs and hips of a doll in such a way that the severed top body portion has to combine therewith to complete not only the effect of clothing for the doll when the bag structure is closed together, but at the same time to permit of a manipulation whereby the lower portion or bag proper may be opened and closed in its functioning as a bag within the concealing folds of the aforementioned clothing for the lower limbs and hips.
In further carrying out the general object of the invention, a further object is to provide for this lower limb and hip covering a large open mouth at the top attached at intervals to a lazy-tongs ring and there by collapsible, circumferentially into a smaller circumference so that when closed the said lazy-tongs ring will fit snugly into the flange of the top portion.
The above and further objects of the invention are to improve in general the details of construction in the completion of an ornamental doll-bag, all as will better be understood by reference to the illustrative embodiment described in the following specification in connection with the accompanying drawings which form a part hereof. The claim is directed to this illustrative In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective front View of the completed structure with the bag open and with parts broken away v and Figure 2 is a diagrammatic vertical section taken along a plane at right angles to the showing in Figure 1.
A structure A in the semblance of the upper trunk-portion or bodice-portion of a doll is provided and is shown as preferably fitted with arms 1 and 2, head 3'a-nd a carrying means shown in the form of a loop 4, attached to the head 3. This upper body portion may be appropriately dressed and have any desired features, for example, in the figure a hat 5 is illustrated and also an upper dress 6 and 7. It should be understood that it is preferable that the dress formation 7 should. extend down over the flange 8 made of any suitable metal and secured directly to the structural formation 9 out of which the doll structure may. be-
fabricated. A pocket or cavity 10 is thereby provided in the lower part of the top portion of the structure. It is within this cavity that the lazy-tongs ring B is adapted to be inserted when the structure is closed. A hinge 13 is suitably secured to the flange 8 and also to the lazy-tongs ring 13, as by one of the eyelets 14:. It is also desirable to provide on the flange 8, opposite the hinge 13, a resilient latch 15 having a nose 16 adapted to sna into securing engagement with the ring In the illustration the n0se'16 is shown engaging with one of the eyelets 17.
Any suitable clothing formation serving as a characteristic outer covering for the lower legs and hips of a doll, as for example, the skirt C, shown in the figure, is provided with pleats or folds 18 at its top portion. The rim 19 of which about the large opening 20 is secured at intervals by tacking 21 to the lazy-tongs ring 13.. 1
By collapsing the lazy-tongs this garment is closed together into closer pleats as shown in Figure 2 and so as to permit the ring B to swing up and seat within the flange 8. Within the clothing C and concealed thereby or, if desired, forming a part thereof, is a bag formation 22. The illustration shows this as independently secured to the ring B. It is pendant within the skirt C and is provided at its lower part with a bottom closure 23.
It is to be understood that the parts 4, 5,
G, 7 and C, in fact, all the parts of the struc ture that are exposed may :be given any degree of ornamentation. and may be made of very fine fabrics, or may be made grotesque, cheap and common all according to the effect which may be desired to be given by the doll Which the bag structure simulates.
What I claim and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is An ornamental doll-bag comprising a topportion shaped in semblance to the upper part of the human body and having a downwardly projecting circumferential flange on its lower part; a bottom portion in its out er part simulating any garment to serve as the leg and hip clothing of a human being but having a large top opening adapted to be closed in pleats into a smaller circumference and a bottom closure for said bottom portion; a lazy-tongs ring secured at intervals circumterentially to said topopening; a hinge securing said ring to said topportion so that said top-portion With its flange can be tilted to free said top-opening or be swung over so that said ring is grasped and covered by said flange; the Whole, when closed, resembling a dressed doll, the parting between the top portion and the bottom portion being at the Waist line.
In Witness whereof, l. have hereunto set
