GOMBINATION GARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent;
PAreN OFFICE.
Patented Au ."1e, 1921.
Application filed September 1, 1920. .Serial No. 407,435.
To all'whom'itmdy concern." 2 I Be it known that I, SAMUEL PAULL, a
citizen of the United. States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain ments and particularly to coats for women,
misses and children, and the object of the invention is to provide a garment of'the class specified which may be worn as a coat, or by making slight adjustmentsWmay be worn as a cape and by makingfurther adjustment maybe'worn as a dolman; and
with this and other objects in view the invention consists in a garmentof theclass and for the purpose specified which is sim ple in construction and use and which is constructed as hereinafter described and claimed. 3 i The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing formsa part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable referencecharacters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a front prospective view of my improved garment and showing the same when used as a coat; V I i t Fig. 2 a view similar to Fig. 1 but showing the garment as it appears when used as a 4 n 7 Fig. 3 a front view of the garment shown in Figs. 1 and 2 with'vthe collar thereof in a different position and showing the appearance when used as a dolman;
Fig. 4 a sectional detail view of the shoulder and arm portion of the garmentas shown in Fig. 1; and,
Fig. 5 a sectional detail view of a shoulder and part of the arm portion of the garment as shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
In the practice of my invention I provide a combination garment comprising a main. body portion 10 open at the front as shown at 11 and provided at the top with any suitable collar construction 12.
At the opposite sides of the body portion 10 are sleeve members 13 formed and connected with the body portion in the usual or any desired manner, and the arm-pit portions of the sleeve members13 are cut out as shown at 4 and 5 of the draw-' 'ing, and the side portions 15 of the body portion 10 are provided with extending flaps 16which are approximately triangularin form and preferablyjmade integral with the body portion of the garment. The transverse dimensionsiof the flaps 16 at the arm 7 pit portions of the sleeve members 13 are the same or greater than the dimensions of the cut-out portions 1 1 of said sleeve members to form a closure therefor. I i
When it is desired to use the garment as a coat, the flaps 16 are passed into the sleeve members 13 and thefree end portions thereof connected with suitable buttons or other attaching devices 17 in the sleeve members 18, one of these connections being clearly showniin Fig. 4 of the drawing, and in this position of thepa-rts the arms of the wearer may be freely passed through the sleeve members and in the use of the garment the cut-outportions lof said sleeve members are closed by the flaps 16 and a neat and finished appearance is produced. 7
When it is desired to fuse the garment as a cape, as shown in-Fig. 2, the flaps 16 are detached from the buttons 17 and the sleeve members 13 are passed within the sides 15 ofthe body portion 10 of the garment with the flaps 16 in'the'position indicated in dotte'd lines in Fig. 4:, after which said flaps are passed upwardly over the shoulder portions of they sleeve members 13 and are se cured to buttons or other attaching devices 18 on the shoulder portions of the garment as clearly illustrated in Figs. 2 and 5 of the drawing. In this positionof the parts, the
It will be apparent that with the construction shown in Figs. 2 and 5, I produce a cape having sleeves or sleeve members which are integral with the body portion of the garment, and in this way the arms of the wearer may be protected and kept warm.
The front side portions of the body portion 10 of the garment are alsoprovided with apertures 19 through which the sleeve members 13, or the free end portions therel of, may be passed as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing to provide a dolman effect of the garment, the position of the sleeve members 13 and flaps 16 being the same as with the construction shown 1n Figs. 2 and 5 of the drawing. Of course, I may make other detail alterations and adjustments in the garment to more effectually produce the desired effects or to better suit the styles o1.
designs of a coat, cape, dolman or the like. i It will be-understood that my improved garment maybe made up in various kinds and classes of fabrics and cloths, as well as in skins and furs of various kinds and classes, and while I have shown and described certain details of construction for carrying my invention into effect, it will be understood that I, am' not necessarily limited to these portion, the arm-pit portions of said sleeve members being cut out, flaps at the opposite 7 sides of the body portion, said flaps being adapted to be extended into the sleeve memleer?l and to be detachably connected therewit 2. A combination garment of'the class de scribed comprising a body portion, sleeve members at the opposite sides of the body portion, the arm-pit portions of said sleeve members being cut out, flaps at the opposite sides of the body portion, said flaps being adapted to be extended into the sleeve members andto be detachably connected therewith, and said flaps being also adapted to be passed over the shoulder portions of said sleeve members and to be 'detachably connected with the shoulder portions of the garment. V
3. A garment of the class described comprislng a body portion and sleeve members, the armpit portions of said sleeve members being cut out to permitof the internal and external use of said sleeve members, means integral with said body portion and adapted to cooperate with said sleeve members in both uses thereof, and to close the cut-out armpit portions of said sleeve members 1n one-use thereof. 1
l. A garment of the class described comprising a'body portion and sleeve members, the armpit portions of said sleeve members being cutout to permit of the internal and external use of said sleeve members, means integral with said body portion and adapted to coiiperate with said sleeve members in both uses thereof, to close the cut-out armpit portions of the sleeve members in one use thereof, and to cover the shoulder portions of said sleeve members in the other use thereof.
5. A garment of the class described comprising a body portion and sleeve members, the armpit portions of said sleeve members being cut out to permit of the internal and external use of said sleeve members, means integral with said body portion and adapted to cooperate. with said sleeve members in both uses thereof, and the front sides of the body portion being provided with apertures through which predetermined portions of said sleeve members are adapted to pass in the internal use thereof.
6. A garment of the class described comprising a body portion and sleeve members, the armpitportions of said sleeve members being cut out to permit of the internal and external use of said sleeve members and closure flaps on said body portion and adapted to cooperate with said sleeve members in both uses thereof. p
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing Witnesses this 31st day of August, 1920. y
