(Cl. 46-116) This invention relates to the doll art and particularly concerns a doll having a mouth with a slide fastener closure.

According to the invention there is provided a doll mouth construction adapted for use on dolls per se, on pillows, purses, bibs, garments of all types, towels, pillowcases, and other household articles.

A principal object of the invention is to provide a dolls head construction in which there is a mouth defining a waterproof compartment closed by a slide fastener simulating teeth.

A further object is to provide a garment or other article with a dolls face defining an outer wall of a lined pocket or compartment and having a mouth in the form of a slide fastener closure.

For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.

In FIGS. 1-3 there is shown a doll 20 having a head 22 in which is formed a mouth opening 24. Fitted into the mouth opening are

26 and 28 of a slide fastener having a slider 30, upper teeth 32 and lower teeth 34. When the teeth are engaged as shown in FIG. 1 they simulate teeth of a smiling doll. A sheet plastic liner 36 defines a compartment or pocket 38 in the head of the doll which is stuffed with cotton or other suitable fibrous material 41. The liner is secured to the outer fabric covering 40 of the dolls head. The head may be ornamented with hair 42. The compartment 38 may serve as a storage place for small articles such as coins, toys and the like.

In FIGS. 46 there is shown a round pillow doll 50 having an outer covering 52 which may be ornamented with peripheral fringes 54.

Fabric pieces

56, 58 simulate eyes and nose of the doll. The entire body of the doll simulates a dolls head.

Extensions

60, 62 define simulated legs. These legs may be made of tubular fabric suitably stuffed with fibrous material. On the backs of the legs near the foot ends 65 are snap fasteners 64 which engage with mating fastener elements 66 on the back of the doll, as shown in FIG. 6. The legs may be folded up to define loops for securing the legs in this position. This serves as a convenient means for carrying the doll which may then serve as a purse. The pocket or compartment 38*- in the dolls head will be defined by plastic sheet liner 36 which is secured to the outer cover ing 52 by stitching 53. A slide fastener in mouth 24 having upper tape 26' with teeth 32 and lower tape 28 with teeth 34 permits the compartment 38 to be opened and closed at will he means of slider 30.

In FIGS. 7, 8 and 9 are shown bib 70, beachrobe 72 and towel 74, respectively. On the bib 70, a strip of fabric of the same shape as the bib is secured to the surface thereof by adhesive or the like and the strip is ornamented to resemble a dolls face 75. On the beachrobe 72 and towel 74 there are secured dolls faces 76 by stitching 78. Each dolls face 76 is formed by a circular piece of fabric 80 and all of the dolls faces are each cut to form a mouth opening 82 and having fabric pieces or painted sections defining eyes 84 and nose 86. 32 and 34 respectively. A slider 30 opens and closes a compartment 38 in the face defined by plastic sheet liner 36* as shown best in FIG. 10. The liner is stitched to the fabric piece 80. The dolls face with its plastic lined compartment and slide fastener closure may be secured to any other garment or household article as may be desired.

The dolls faces and 76 may be applied by the manufacturer of the article at a factory or the dolls face may be applied by the home seamstress to any finished article to serve as a decorative ornament as well as to provide a pocket for holding small articles.

While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and that various changes and modifications may be made within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent 1. A toy comprising a circular body composed of a mass of fabric stuffing material simulating in shape a human face, said body tapering from the center to the peripheral edge thereof on both sides, said body having a compartment in the mass below the midcenter thereof and opening to the front of the body, said compartment extending substantially the width of the body, a thin fabric cover enveloping said mass, said cover having an elongated opening therein aligned with the compartment, said opening being arcuate in shape simulating a human mouth, a slide fastener device in said opening, said device including tapes fastened to the top and bottom edge walls of the opening, opposed teeth carried by said tapes in simulation of human teeth, and a slider operatively connected to said teeth for opening and closing the same, said cover bearing devices positioned relative to the opening to simulate human eyes and a nose, the peripheral edge of the cover having radial strings simulating human hair.
