Arf IIIIIIIIIIIIII AN. 111111 94 924,371; Patented June8`,1909.
THEODORE PARKS AND JOHN COUGHLIN,
OF COLUMBUS, ORTH DAKOTA.
PLOW.
Speccation of Letters Patent. Application led January 11, 1909.
Patented .Tune 8, 1909. Serial N o. 471,696.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, TrmoDoRE PARKS and J oHN OOUGHLIN, citizens of the United States, residing at Columbus, in the county of Ward and State of North Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plows; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in plows, and particularly embraces a plow provided with means for detachably securing a share to the mold board and the landside.
One of the objects of the invention is the production of the plow having a mold board provided with a securing strap or lug, and a share adapted to be detachably secured to said mold board by means of a key arranged to lock with said strap or lug.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawing, is an exterior perspective view of our improved plow; Fig. 2 is an interior perspective view thereof; Fig. 3 is a rear view of an attaching device; and Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view through the mold board, showing a top plan view of the connecting means for the share and mold board.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, numeral l designates the mold board and 2 the landside, which is secured to the'mold board by a V-shaped brace 3 and a frog 4, and rivets or bolts 5 which extend through said brace and frog and through the mold board and landside. Frog 4 is preferably tapered on its lower portion and projects below the lower edge of the mold board so as to engage with the plow point 9.
The mold board l is provided with a depending plate or brace 6 which is secured thereto by a squared-bolt or rivet 7 which prevents the plate from turning, saidr depending plate or brace 6 beingadapted to brace the share 9 with the point. A strap or lug 8 is secured on the inner side of the mold board l, near Figure 1 which is made integral its lower edge at the rear end thereof. The share 9 is provided near its rear end with an upwardly projecting loop ll secured at 10 thereto and which extends through the strap 8 and is adapted to be secured thereto by means of a split key l2. One member of the key l2 is preferably provided with lateral corrugations which are adapted to securely hold said key in locking position with the loop ll, and the strap or loop 8. By means of these improvements the share and point may be quickly attached or detached from a mold board or landside, so that the point when desired may be readily sharpened or applied for use should it be desired. The point may be secured to the landside by means of a bolt extended therethrough and through one end of the frog 4.-.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described and ascertained the I what we claim as by Letters-Patent,
nature of our invention, new and desire to secure 1s:`
A plow comprising a mold board, a landside secured to the mold board, a frog secured to the inner faces of the landside and mold board and having a depending lower end, an integrally formed point and share, a loop secured at one end to the inner face of the rear end of the share and projecting above the upper edge thereof, a strap secured to the mold board adapted to receive said loop, and a key provided with a corrugated spring for locking the loop to the strap.
In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THEODORE PARKS. JOHN OOUGHLIN.
