To all whom it may concern i Be it known that I, RUDOLPH A. SonwAHN,

a citizen of the United States, residing at Eau Claire, in the county of Eau Claire and State of 71800118111, have invented new and useful Improvements in HarnessAtof an attachment adapted to be eXpedi-' tiously and easily buckled on a split strap of a harness in such manneras to prevent'the separated portions of the strap from ripping or tearing farther apart, and also in such manner that itcan be used to advantage in the connection of a line guard to a neck strap or a rein-support to a hip strap, or in the connection of any .otherharness appurtenance to any split strap of a harness.

WVith the foregoing in mind the invention will be fully understood from the following description andclaim when the same are read in connection with the drawings, accompanying and forming part of this specification, in which:

Referring by numerals to the drawings, and more particularly to Figs. 1 to 3 there of: 1 is a neck strap split or bifurcated at 2, to form sub-straps or tabs 3 in which are apertures 4, and 5 is my novel attachment which may be and preferably is cast of suitable metal and is nickel-plated or otherwise embellished so as to enhance rather than detract from the finishedappearance of a harness. The said attachment comprises a central body portion 6 having by preference a square aperture 7 and also having a rear wardly extending stud 8, Figs. 2 and 3, an upper loop 9, and a lower loop 11. The lower portions of the upper loop 9 extend laterally in opposite directions from the central body portion, and the upper portions of the lower loop 11 similarly extend laterally in opposite directions from the central body Specification of Letters Patent. portion, and from this it follows that both loops are of greater width than the body portion. The upper loop 9 is curved rearward or inward so that its upper bar 10 rests in a plane parallel to and inward from the plane of the body 6, and the lower loop 11 is curved rearward or inward so that its lowerbar 12 rests in'a plane parallel to and lnward from the plane of the body 6. slipped on a strap having its lower end split .to. form sub-straps ortabs, by. simply placing the attachment on the strap and adj ustmg it to the point where it is supported on the strap and the sub-straps or tabs are received in the lower loop 11.

The particular attachment referred to is designed to carry, a line guard 14, which line guard is provided with'a shank 15, of angular form in cross-section, which shank is disposed in the attachment aperture 7 and is secured in position by upsetting its end against the back or inner side of the attachment. I would here have it understood, however, that the line guard may be fixed with respect to the attachment 5 in any suitable manner without involving departure from the scope of my invention.

One advantage possessed by my novel attachment 5 is the facility with which it can be buckled or secured on a split strap, no sewinghwhatever being necessary. Another and very important advantage of the attachment is that the lower loop 11 is adapted to effectually prevent the sub-straps or tabs 3 of the strap 1 tearing or ripping apart. In other words, the said lower loop confines the sub-straps or tabs 3 and reinforces the same, and by preventing ripping or tearing apart of the same materially prolongs the usefulness of the strap.

While the attachment shown in Figs. 1 to 3 is designed particularly for effecting connection of a line guard to a neck strap, it is is shown as carrying an attachment 5 simi lar to the attachment 5-and carrying a rein vertical plane of the body a second loop, of

It will be readily understood from the foregoing that either embodiment of my invention is adapted to be usedto advantage in combination with an upper strap, sewed on the upper bar ofthe upper loop, and lower straps sewed on the lower bar of the lower loop.

Having described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure byLetters-Patent, is:

As a new article of manufacture; a harness attachment consisting essentially of a body flat at its inner side to bear solidly against a strap and having a stud projecting laterally inward from said side to enter an aperture in the strap; a loop, formed integral with and of greater width than the body, curved in a general direction upwardly and inwardly from the body and having outwardly curved end portions and also haying an upper, straight horizontal bar disposed in a vertical plane back of the greater width than the body and integral therewith, curved in a general direction downwardly and inwardly from the body and having outwardly curved end portions and also having a lower curved bar that rests in a vertical plane back of the vertical plane of the body; and an upright reinsupport fixedly connectedwith the center of the body and carried at the outer side of the body andarranged in a vertical plane that extends through the vertical'centers ofsaid loops. p
