Description

(No Model.)
G. H. DAVIS. GRUPPBR FASTENING.
No. 446,380. Patented Feb. 10,1891.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
. GEORGE H. DAVIS, OF LACONA, NEV YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO S. H. BARLOXV, OF SAME PLACE.
CRUPPER-FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 446,380, dated February 10, 1891.
Application filed August 4, 1890. Serial No. 360,885. (No model.) I
To all whom it mjay concern..-
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. DAVIS, of Lacona, in the county of Oswego,in the State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Cropper-Fastening Devices, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to crupper clamps or to fasteners.
My object isto dispense with the ordinary buckle for securing the crupper to the backst-rap of the harness, and to provide a suitable fastening easily, quickly, and securely attached, cheap in construction, and of great utility.
My invention consists in the several novel features of construction and operation hereinafter described, and specifically set forth in the claim annexed hereto. It is constructed as follows, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a top plan view of the crupper secured to the back-strap of the harness with 2 2 my improved fastening-clamp. Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of the fastening device detached. Fig. 3 is a view of one of the parts tletached. Figs. 4 and 5 are edge views of the parts as they appear before being puttogether.
Similar letters of reference indicate the cor responding parts.
A and B are the two parts substantially similar in construct-ion, with the exception that one of them is a trifle smaller than the other for the purpose of allowing it to fit into the other. Each of these parts are constructed from a piece of metal, the larger portion of which is first made keystone shape, as seen at 1, and the edges f these parts are then turned up, as shown in the drawings at 2, and c corrugated, as seen at 3,at right angles to the length of the clamp. At the other end of these 7 pieces of metal I form an eye 4, towhich the back-strap or the end of the crupper is attached. It will be seen that when one of these pieces is drawn into the other, as shown in Fig. 2, the corrugations of each part will come into engagement with the other and. hold them firmly together, when otherwise they would be disengaged should the tension upon any part for any cause whatever become slackened.
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A crupper-fastening device consisting of the parts A and B, having their edges turned up and corrugated at right angles to the length of the clamp, and provided with an eye 4 in one end thereof, substantially as described, for the purposes as set. forth. I
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 15th day of July, 1890.
GEORGE H. DAVIS.
In presence of- HOWARD P. DENISON, 0. W. SMITH.
