SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 696,970, dated April 8, 1902.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHAUNOY W. I-IoDeEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Battlecreek, in the county of Calhoun and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness- Hooks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an improved harness-hook.
The objects of this invention are to provide an improved harness-hook which is simple and inexpensive to manufacture and which shall be durable in use and easy to manipulate and effective in preventing any disengagement of the parts connected by the same.
Further objects will definitelyappearin the detailed description to follow.
I accomplish the objects of my invention by the devices and means described in the following specification and definitely pointed out in the claims.
A structure embodying the features of my invention is fully illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming apart of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a plan View of a structure embodying the features of my invention, the same being illustrated in use; Fig. 2, a side elevation view of the structure appearing in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is aperspective view of a structure embracing the features of myinvention.
In the drawings similar letters of reference refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to lettered parts of drawings, A represents a strap to which my improved harness-hook is secured.
A also represents a strap secured to a ring A-(illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2) in engagement with my improved harness-hook.
My improved harness-hook consists of an engaging portion B, having the usual loop B, by means of which it is secured to a suitable strap. Projecting from the loop 13 in the same general direction as the engaging portion B of the hook are lugs c c on either side of the shank of the engaging portion. These lugs project slightly beyond the rearwardlyturned end of the engaging portion B and are removed therefrom a distance suflicient to permit the passing of the engaging ring, as A, between them. The lug c is preferably curved inwardly, although that is not an essential, and, further, the lug a may be omitted entirely and very satisfactory results be accomplished. The engaging portion B is formed with an inwardly-projecting lug f on its shank portion and the inwardly-projecting lugs eand g on the rearwardly-turned portions of the same. These lugs project slightly forward to form engaging means or hook-like projections; and their tips are in substantially the same plane, so that the ring, as A", to be engaged will readily pass to the forward end of the hook, but must take a sinuous motion to be disengaged therefrom. In joining the parts they are given a slight twist until the projections o c are passed, when any tension draws them into place. The lugs prevent disengaging unless a slight twisting movement of the parts is resorted to.
My improved hook is adapted to all the uses of a harness hook or snap.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is'
1. Inaharness-hook, the combination of an engaging portion B, having inwardly and forwardly projecting portions f, c, g, arranged alternately thereon; a loop portion B having forwardly-extending lugs c, c, on either side of the said engaging portion to serve as guards, substantially as described.
2. In aharness-hook, the combination of an engaging portion B, having inwardly and forwardly projecting portions arranged alternately thereon; a loop portion B having a forwardly-extending lug c to one side of the said engaging portion to serve as a guard, substantially as described.
