UNITED STATES I SAMEL J. COX AND CHARLES L. ACKERMAN, OF LIMA, OHIO.
GARM ENT-FASTENlNG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 715,351, dated December 9, 1902.
Application filed April 14, 1902.
To @ZZ whom. it may concern,.-
Be it knownthat we, SAMUEL'J. COX and CHARLES L. ACKERMAN, citizens of the United States, residing at Lima, in the county of Allen and State'of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Fasienings, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to improvements in garmeut-fastenings; and one object of our invention is the provision of a fastening particularly adapted for use upon garments where one Hap or portion of the garment is overlapped and secured upon the other portion, the fastening being easy to fasten and release, but which cannot become detached accidentally.
Another object of our invention is the provision of a fastening which can be attached to the garment without danger of injury to the garment and which will make a smooth and neat fastening` of the parts of the garment.
Another objectof our invention is the provision of a garment-fastening which will be easy to attach, which will be small and compact and of attractive appearance, and which will be inexpensive, durable, and practical in every particular.
With these objects in view our invention consists of a fastening embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts, substantially as disclosed herein.
Figure l represents a perspective View of the two members which compose our fastening. Fig. 2 representsa sectional View show ing the members in fastened position to show .the `manner in which the parts interlock. Fig. 3 represents a sectional view of the two members detached.
We have stated that our fastening is particularly adapted for use as a garment-fastener; but We would have it understood that the fastener maybe used as a glove-fastener or for any purpose where its construction would perform the functions for which it was designed.
Our fastener is composed of the member A, which is formed with countersunk openings A for receiving the securing-thread, and with the depression A2, which leads to the diminished channel or slot A3, which is on the under face of the member, and on the upper face and adjacent to the end of the channel is the lug A4. The other member B Serial No. 102,893. (No model.)
is also provided with countersunk threadopenings B and with a central stud B2, which enters and lits snugly in the channel of the other member, and the member B is further provided with an annular groove B3, in which when the parts are fastened the lug A4 enters and forms a lock or catch, and thus it will be seen that when the parts are fastened the lug locks in the annular groove and the stud locks in the channel, and thus the parts are held firmly together, and it is impossible for the fastening to become detached until forced away to unlock the fastening. It will be understood that the two members are preferably made of stiff metal which Will not bend when subjected to hard usage, and it will also be noted that a spring-locking action is made between the two members by reason of the construction of the said members. It will also be seen that the parts make asnug close joint and that the fastener possesses all the requisites to render it eiiicient, useful, and entirely practical.
We claiml. The fastening herein described, consisting of the member having a slot or channel on the under face said slot leading from one side to the center of the member and a lug on the upper face, and a member having a stud which fits in said channel and a groove or depression to receive the lug on the other section and form a lock between the two members when one member is slid upon the other.
2. The fastening herein described, consisting of a member havingcountersunk threadopenings and having a'slot on itsl under face and a lug on its upper face in line with said slot, and a member having a stud to engage the slot and a circular groove or depression to receive the lug, and having countersunk thread-openings 3. A-fastening composed of a disk having a depressed mouth at one side leading to a channel and having a lug, a disk having a f SAMUEL J. COX. CHARLES L. ACKERMAN.
