PATENT FFICE.
JOSEPH DEMSKY, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
SKlRT- FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 769,791, dated September 13, 1904.
Application filed July 10, 1908. Serial No. 164,997- (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, J OSEPH DEMSKY, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Skirt-Fasteners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention has relation to improvements in skirt-fasteners; and it consists in the novel construction of fastener more fully set forth in the specification and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective of a skirt, showing my invention applied thereto. ber of the fastener. Fig. 3 is an edge view Fig. 4 is a plan of the male member. Fig.5 is an edge view thereof. Fig. 6 is an edge view showing the two members locked, and Fig. 7 is an edge view showing the male member bent for purposes of insertion into the female member.
The object of my invention is to provide the rear placket of a skirt with a fastener which shall be simple, easily manipulated, cheap to manufacture, durable, and one capable of application in connection with any garment whatsoever.
In detail the invention may be described as follows:
Referring to the drawings, 1 represents the female section of the fastener, the same being in the form of an oblong plate having terminal openings 2 elongated in the line of the width of the plate, the latter being provided with holes 3 for the passage of the sewing-thread by which the plate is secured to the skirt S.
The male section of the fastener is composed of a resilient plate iof a width approximating the length of the openings 2 and of a length substantially that of the female section, said male section being likewise provided with holes 3 for the sewing thread. The ends of the plate 4 terminate in tongues 5, disposed Fig. 2 is a plan of the female memin a plane parallel to the plane of the body of the plate and removed therefrom a distance determined by the offsets 6, the latter being inclined outwardly from the body of the plate, as best seen in Fig. 5.
As stated above, the male section is resilient,
and by seizing it, together with the garment, and bending it within the compass of the space between the openings 2 of the female section. Fig. 7 the tongues 5 can be simultaneously inserted into the openings, when upon being released the spring of the metal will elongate it, the inclined offsets readily permitting of such elongation and interlocking of the parts, as is obvious, Fig. 6.
I do not, of course, wish to be limited to the precise details here shown, as they may in a measure be departed from without affecting the nature or spirit of my invention. Neither do I wish to limit its application to skirts, as it may be used with any garment whatsoever.
Having described my invention, what I claim is A fastener comprising a female section composed of an oblong plate, having terminal openings elongated in the direction of the width of said plate, and a male section composed of a resilient plate of a width substantially that of the length of the openings in the female, terminal tongues forming integral extensions of the plate for engaging said openings, and. inclined offsets connecting said tongues with the body of the male plate, the tongues being deflected in a plane substantially parallel with the plane of said body portion, and being removed from the garment to which said body portion is adapted to be secured, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
'JosEPH DEMSKY.
