To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK E. WVILsON, residing at Cleveland, in the county of Cuya hoga and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garment-Fasteners, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates generally to garment fasteners, and particularly to that class of such devices which are used for the purpose of securing together the skirt members of the placket opening in the back of a skirt.

More specifically the invention contemplates the use of a stud secured to one portion of a skirt, and a wire hook secured to another portion thereof, and adapted to engage the shank of the stud and to so embrace the same that there is very little play between the parts, thus tending to hold them in perfect alinement whereby there is substantially no sagging or 'apping open of the members of the skirt at t e placket vent. And to further provide means upon the hook extending out beyond the stud for supporting the edge of the garment and in that way keeping the placket vent closed.

The invention also relates to other features of construction hereinafter set forth in the following description, drawings and claims.

Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 shows the invention applied to a skirt; Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of the wire hook; Fig. 3 is an enlarged view of the stud, and Fig. 4 is an en LaIrged sectional view of the two parts assem- Any preferred form and construction of hook and stud may be employed in the carrying out of my invention so long as they possess the necessary characteristics. 1 have shown one form in the drawings however, which very effectively meets the -requirements, and in such embodiment 1, represents a skirt strip which is secured to the under side of the skirt at the edge of the placket opening, as shown in Fig. 1. To this strip 1, the stud 2, is secured either by means of stitches or any other suitable means although stitching is referred. The stud 2, has a shank 3, whic connects the head 4,

with the base 5, in such a manner that the hook, to be described, will be clamped snugly between them. The base 5 is provided with slots 6, four being shown in the drawings, for the passage of the stitches for Specification of Letters Patent.

securing the stud to the skirt strip 1. The stock portion 7, of the base is bent down slightly, as shown in Fig. 1, for the purpose of bringing the stitches, for securing the stud to the strip, flush or slightly below the sur face of the base, and in that way protecting the stitches and removing them out of the way of the hook.

Secured to the under side of the other edge of the skirt at the placket vent, is a hook 8, which is preferably bent from a single piece of wire to form a long straight portion 9, with both of its ends formed into end loops 9*, and bent back upon the straight portion 9, toward the center where they touch each other in curved portions 10, and then bulge out in side portions 11, to form an opening between them for the reception of the shank 3, of the stud. The ends of the wire are then bent outward and formed into loops 12, which serve as a suitable securing means for the hook.

The long straight portion 9, and the 100 s 9, are serrated, as shown in Fig. 2, for t e purpose of preventing the threads from slipping when the hook is applied to the garment.

The stud is arranged with the shank thereof of substantially the length and configuration of the cross-section of the, wire used for the hooks, whereby when the hook is in engagement it will fit snugly about the shank and between the head and the base and will be held more or less in parallel alinement with the latter, whereby there is no play permitted between the parts, and the two edges of the skirt at the placket vent will be held close together by reason thereof.

In practice the hooks are applied as close as possible to the very edge of the skirt at the placket vent so as to bring the straight portion 9, of the hook substantially flush with the edge, whereby when the hook is applied to the stud this portion will reject beyond the latter and the edge of tie skirt to which it is stitched will be held close to the other edge of the skirt and the placket bent will be tightly closed at all times.

A very important feature of this invention is the fact that the arrangement of the parts in the manner set forth does away with the accidental unfastening of the placket even when the skirt is pulled out of its normal shape due to the raising of the same or for any other reason.

Having described my invention, I claim 1.
