Description
(NoModeL) S. M. FRY. DEVICE FOR HANGING CARRIAGE CURTAINS. No. 536,868.
Patented Apr. 2,1895.
' Wifiims ms 2 Nrrn TATES ATENT DEVICE FOR HANGING CARRIAGE-CURTAINS.
SPECIFICATION formiiig part of Letters Patent No. 536,868, dated April 2, 1895.
Application filed June 23, 1894.
To all WIT/07711 it may concern:
Be it known that. I, SILAS M. FRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Greensburg, in the county of Westmoreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin Devices for Hanging Carriage-Curtains; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
The object of my invention is a fastening or hanging device for carriage curtains to be used instead of buttons as is the present method.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective view of the top of a carriage. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the side of said carriage top. Fig. 3 is a sectional view of the curtain and its attachment. Fig. 4 is a cross sectional view of the two parts B and 0, showing them united. Fig. 5 shows the two metallic plates used by me in the hanging of carriage curtains, the partB being attached to the quarter A of the carriage top and the part 0 to be attached to the curtain proper.
A represents a carriage top.
B is the metallic attachment to be used in connection with the other part C, for the purpose aforesaid.
A is the carriage curtain.
a" is the flap of the carriage top seen in Fig. 1.
b is a tongue made integral or stamped out of the part B and is used as a fastener and guide for securing the part 0 in position in hanging the curtain. I
c" is a tongue made integrator stamped out of the part or plate 0 and is used for the purpose of making the proper attachment with the other plate B in hanging the curtain.
Serial No. 515,547. (No model.)
This tongue 0 acts as a spring to hold the tongue I) securely in place when inserted through the aperture in the plate or clip 0.
b b are perforations in the plate 13 and used for stitching the plate to the quarter A 0' c are like perforations in the plate 0 and are to be for the same purpose.
The tongue 72 should be made somewhat pointed so that the attachment will be more easily effected.
When thus made and thus attached to the quarter A and curtain A a neat and close connection is made of the curtain and the quarter A so that the curtain will not droop or hang down,as is common where the hanging is done on buttons as is now done. These plates B andC should be made of suitable steel plate of a proper size suitable for the purpose, withsufficient perforations along the edges thereof for stitching to the quarter A and curtain A.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
In a carriage top the combination with the quarter and a depending flap, of a metallic plate secured between the quarter and the said flap and having an opening and an integral tongue 1) approximately pointed, a curtain, and a metallic plate secured to the curtain and having an opening to receive the tongue I), and provided with a tongue 0 to press laterally against the said tongue 6, substantially as described for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I hereunto afiix my signature this 20th day of June, A. D. 1894.
SILAS M. FRY. [n s] In presence of- H. O. FUNK, H. L. FUNK.
